There is a MY11 Silver 3.5 TT sitting in the dealership where I bought my 3.0. I sat in it while waiting for my mirrors being replaced; that was yesterday.

Here is what the review is saying ....

The latest Z4 model is characterized by instantaneous response to the accelerator pedal, fantastic sounds, and a free-revving spirit. The engine features increased air intake flow and increased boost pressure to release more power with the same standard of efficiency. The combination of twin low-mass turbochargers and High Precision direct injection offers an output a naturally-aspirated engine would only be able to provide through more cylinders and larger displacement.

The turbocharger system developed for the engine of the new BMW Z4 sDrive35is maintains a high output throughout the entire engine speed range. Nominal peak torque is increased to 332 lb-ft from 1,500 rpm to 4,500 rpm. Maximum output of 335 hp is delivered at 5,900 rpm.
Yes, 2011's do have the twin turbo. The 2011's came out only months after the 2010 model year so that may be the reason he was off on when they would possibly switch engines.

The twin turbo remains in all cars that still have the N54 engine (Z4 and 335). Those that have the N55 have the single, larger turbo.

Had a 68 ragtop vette back in '75.( one of my Father-in-laws' toys. He lost his license (DUI) so we got to play with them ) It was crap as well. His Eldorado ragtop was way more fun.

I think this portion of the Jan 2010 press release explains it pretty well...

------------------------------------------------

PRESS RELEASE

2011 Arrives Early for BMW - MY2011: Enhanced Performance and Efficiency, Value Packages and No Price Increase.

* 28.01.2010
* Press Release

Highlight: New Inline 6 Cylinder Twin-Scroll Turbo Engine (N55)
Beginning with MY2011 production, most models currently utilizing the twin turbo inline 6 cylinder N54 engine will switch to the new single twin-scroll inline 6 cylinder N55 engine. The new engine shares the same aluminum block as the previous engine but now uses a new cylinder head with BMW VALVETRONIC combined with a single twin scroll type turbo to deliver faster response and more efficiency. The performance figures remain the same at 300hp and 300 lb-ft torque but the efficiency improves by an impressive 7%. The new engine will be installed in the 135i Coupe and Convertible, the 335i Sedan, Coupe and Convertible, the new 535i Sedan when it arrives later this year, the 535i Gran Turismo arriving this spring and finally, the X6 xDrive35i.

The 300hp version of the twin-turbo N54 engine will continue to be offered in the Z4 sDrive35i and upgraded versions of the N54 will power the 740i/Li, Z4 sDrive35is, and the 335is Coupe/Convertible.

Seems the TT version will go down in history as one of the shortest lived engines in the history of BMW.

I have three muscle cars. They are fun and give a nostalgic feeling from my teenage years. Even used two of them for daily drivers at different times, then one almost killed me. That was it. They are a couple of toys now - start 'em up, may drive around the block but that's all. It's always nice to take a nostalgic look back down memory lane and there were a couple I wish I still had, but, the fact is they take up space, need maintenance and most of the time I feel guilty that I don't drive them more.

Don't quite get it.

Have friends that own 'em. Not a particularly great car in my book, build quality is typical vet - poor. But don't quite understand BlueZ4AZ what's diff about that year to you.

Couple of nice concept photos, but don't believe we'll see a new split window on the street.

By way of explanation...

"No 1983 Corvettes were sold. Quality and production problems had delayed introduction of the new C4 generation so 1983 was passed over. 44 1983 cars were assembled. Some were used to sort out production details while others were assigned to engineering evaluation and crash testing. A few were part of a December 1982 press introduction at Riverside Raceway in California.

43 of the 44 1983 C4 Corvettes were destroyed. The one remaining car, number 23 (white), was retired to the National Corvette Museum in Bowling Green KY where it is now on display. It is still owned by GM.

The C4 replacement was scheduled to be introduced in September 1983. The new design was a complete and complicated update that incorporated much new technology. Unfortunately the design team was unable to get everything ready and even though there was a desire to celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Corvette with a 1983 model, they could not make it happen.

The C4 was able to meet the various 1984 safety and anti-smog regulations, so it became the first car available to do so when production started on January 3, 1983. The first 1984 C4 Corvettes were delivered to customers in March 1983."

Seems like they should have done the same with the 2009 Z4. By the time it was finally released, they just should have called it a 2010. Strange to purchase as soon as it was available and then have it be 2 years old in the first nine months.

BTY : I think that is a black 69 Corvette above ??? I had a 350 -350 69 convertible. back in 1970. That definitely was one of my all time favorite cars in the world. Even bought a clone of it many years later but that one, being older an high mileage, turned out to be a rat. Still my heart skips a beat when I see another 69 to this day...
