spare key?

Locked keys in trunk today. ( I'm blaming this mental lapse on a girl on a bicycle stopping at my garage, "wow...nice BMWs"....I was brain dead at the point."
So after not finding a spare in the house, I had BMW Assist (1-800-332-4269 in NA ) open the car. First time experience with that nice service.
Did we receive a spare key with our E89? Owners manual says we can have service center cancel a lost key and get a replacement. ?

But yes, I got 2 keys when I got the car, if that's what you mean by spare key.
Sort of unrelated to you specifically since I take it you don't have CA, but if I'm not mistaken if you do have CA, the trunk won't close if it detects the key is in the trunk. I have to try it sometime...

I have CA and still managed to lock the keys in the car one time. Called BMW Assist, who said that it's not supposed to allow the door to lock, but as we all know, weird things happen.

I believe the computer went to sleep while trunk was open 10-15 minutes with keys laying inside. I don't have CA, but I thought the safeguard was in-place CA or not. I'm going to roll down window and attempt to lock them inside trunk again. I'll place keys near pass thru in trunk in case of some additional new child-proof hell they've come up with. Meanwhile where is that spare, 2nd, key? Thanks.

There's a BMW iPhone app that allows you to unlock your own door. Oh wait, you locked your iPhone in the trunk too?

I have many times put my keys in the trunk (while in my work bag). You are correct, with CA it will pop the trunk and beep at you. Thank god.

Right. BMW Remote App. Remote lock and unlock, google search for nav transfer to car. Very convenient.

I bought mine used and only came with one key. Luckily it also came with a one year Easy Care protection plan which covered lost key replacement. The warranty coverage was $281.00

BTW the BMW My Remote app has been recently updated so that is puts in a call to BMW Roadside Assist to do the unlock. Apparently it was a "security feature" and I tried to avoid downloading the latest version until Google Local Search stopped working. A bit annoying that BMW nerfed the app but I guess it is better than thieves using the app to unlock the car....

Wow! I'm so glad I locked key in the trunk. I just found a shoe box in spare bedroom closet with the missing Z4 key, my e46 M3 second key i didn't know was missing, two pairs of Oakley sunglasses I haven't seen for years, my missing original NOOK, my sons birth certificate and copy of Soc Sec card, a Passport Hard drive, my HP iPAQ PC, it's like Christmas here today for me!!!

Fixed for you

Glad you found it though, as there have been several occasions where I have misplaced my key and had to use the spare.
