Good morning.

I have a 2012 28i with navigation. I notice that the display does not change from day to night automatically. You have to go into settings to do that. Every car I have owned since 2000 with Nav has had automatic day night display. Is this something that I need to have BMW take a look at?
Also in regard to the nav. The voice directions are hard to hear. I notice that the radio does not mute when the directions are given. Is this something also that needs reprogramming? Again all of my other cars with nav muted the radio when verbal instructions were given. I know every car is different. The clock in every car except my wifes 2007 Lexus would change time when you crossed into another time zone. Not the Lexus. LOL.

The nav does not do auto day night. The voice volume can be adjusted, only when it is speaking.

But you can set up one of the buttons on the radio as a shortcut to night mode. It's just one-touch then to toggle between day and night modes.

Thanks TeeZee That's a good suggestion. I'll do that. As far as the voice on the nav system, I asked the dealership how do I know when the person is going to speak. They didn't have an answer for that.

Just catch it while it's speaking and change the volume. Gotta be quick!

Or, if you turn voice instruction off and then on, she will repeat the last command. I have one of my programmable buttons turning voice instructions off (and on when I need them). You can also use the second from the top icon on the left of the nab display to do this.

This way you can keep on repeating until you like the volume.

Even easier, just press the "talk" button and say "repeat".
but getting back to day/night mode...I checked in map settings and the box is checked for this setting, but my map doesn't change to night mode, even if I manually uncheck and check. How do you get it into night mode?

I have a 2010 Z4, my girlfriend just got a 2013 X3. I like the new voice command to enter address. You just have to speak the whole entire address. On mine, it prompts you to say City, Street, house number one at a time. Does anyone know if it is possible to get an update to do the single command input like the newer models?

Is your map grey? If so you're in "traffic mode" which overrides the night/day setting. You can turn this off the same way.

Yes my car is a 2009 and was the same until a recent software update which now lets me enter the full address! Yay

But I have a 2012 and have to enter each part of the address separately. Why wouldn't I have the most updated software?

jparnes1--I think cdeslanders is correct. I don't use traffic so my map is not gray. I simply click the night view box and it goes to night view. I did program one of my buttons to make that change and I like that very much.

I guess my service advisor lied to me. I was in for service 3 weeks ago and he stated they updated my software. I still don't have that feature.
