will place an order in 5 hours

feels like a kid on the x-mas eve

i'm returning my 08 335i today and will place an order for '11 z4 330.

it's something of an impulse buy cuz i was gonna return my 335i, and live with my jetta for a few months and ponder my next car with ample time. but bmw runs a good lease (~$500/mo) so i thought why not.

anybody of you guys came from 3-series? how do you like the change?

i'm getting yellow, BTW.

NOT

z4 is pretty rare here in colorado and if i get it in yellow, i'd be attracting all kind of attention. i'm ordering plain vanilla...um... i mean, space gray.

last time i placed an order (335i), it took me about 2 months and a few days, from the build to cross-atlantic shipping to my dealership. does it still take about 2+ months to receive the car from the factory these days?

sorry about my incoherant rants. too excited to sleep and it's 5 so i kinda gave up sleeping.

thanks for reading my rants, guys

Congrats! I hope to be in your shoes very soon. Just waiting to hear back from the SA about the April pull-ahead program this Friday.

The z4 330 is the rarest E89 in existence (in the world)

Congrats on the new car!

I was in the same boat a year ago to the day... Ahh but the wait is a killer, be prepared. At least you will get a full summer with it. Other than 2 weeks of Euro Delivery in September mines been basically sitting in the garage because it didn't arrive home until 12/30.

I've become obsessed with the long range forecasts looking for potential top down weekend weather. I've never wanted Summer to arrive so badly in my life.

Just drive it now. It's a car. I plan to daily mine, even through winter in the north east.

Yes but see you can safely say that because you will have had a summer to break it in before winter arrives again. I'll get over it by next winter but right now it's just too new. I have 2500 miles so far, 1500 of which were done in europe and 300 driving back from the dealer on redlivery. SO I've done 700 miles in 3 months...., that's not bad...., right?

True, that's not too bad. There's just nothing worse than people who put like 1,000 miles on a car over the course of a year or two. What's the point if you don't drive it as much as possible?

I had 2 335i verts, an 07 and then an 09 after a trade assist out of my 07. When I traded for my Z I decided to get an s30i for several reasons:

1. I felt that I never fully utilized the power of the 335i
2. I did not want to deal with the HPFP issue.
3. I really liked the wheels that come with the SP on the s30i

I have never regretted my decison as I find the s30i with a 6MT to be a well balanced, fun to drive roadster.

omfg. i'm beginning to realize how frustrating it is to purchase a car. they assume you have an intelligence of 7 years old. when i ask them questions, pointing out their mistakes (this is putting it mildly. they are all cheaters!), they act like 7 years old, pretending not to understand my pointing out their tricks.

i'm disgusted but negotiation is still under way over email and phone. will let you know guys.

thanks guys for all the encouragements

btw, first negoation broke off and i stopped by porsche dealership and took the testdrive of boxter. it was really nice, although the payment will be higher, and options are kinda stripped.

drive-wise, i think z4 had more power but porsche had a nice badge. am i badgewhore? no. do i care about the badge? certainly

if you guys had to start over and had to choose between cayman and z4 (both are new 2011), what would you do?

thanks

ps. i understand the irony of asking this question on the e89 board

Just drive it. I've been daily driving mine since taking delivery Sept. 15. Sure looking forward to dry days. Cold & dry hasn't bothered me, just put the top down and bundle up.

got a good story to tell you - let it be a lesson that the dealers are, well, at least the ones i talked to today, trying the hardest to screw you.

i'm trying to return my car - call it OLD LEASE. it had a security deposit of $750, which I like to get it back or use it toward the NEW LEASE.

the NEW LEASE - as stipulated in the lease disclosure on BMWUSA website, requires 0 security deposit.

the dealer is trying their hardest not to return me $750 security deposit from the OLD LEASE and gave me the following story.

"BMWUSA needs to hold that $750 deposit as an escrow. the OLD LEASE is not completely closed. It is true that the NEW LEASE requires $0 security deposit BECAUSE you have an escrow with BMWUSA from the OLD LEASE. If you sign the NEW LEASE and at the end of NEW LEASE, if you decide to return the car, you will get your security deposit back from the OLD LEASE. In that sense, the OLD LEASE is not completely closed."

So they are trying to sell me the story that I will have $750 as an escrow with BMWUSA from the OLD LEASE. I asked them why they cannot simply transfer that $750 as a security deposit toward the NEW LEASE, he started to babble and became incoherent.

I am totally sick of the games the dealers play. Is it really too much to expect them to follow or honor what's stipulated in the terms of the lease in the BMWUSA website?

placed an order today at a dealership in the neighboring city. much better price and a lot friendlier environment but it's 40+ miles away from where I live.

oh well.

I should feel excited and call up my friends and start bragging but I'm too exhaused to celebrate. I'm sure I will feel better in the days ahead

Hopefully I get the car by early June so that I'd have at least 6mo to enjoy the new car 'till the Winter hibernation...

Thanks guys

Congrats on the order. It took exactly 6 weeks to get my BTO Z4 here on the east coast. Not sure what the shipping route is for CO, but you can research it.

Once you're able to track the car, then the real fun starts.

much prefer the z4 to the cayman. z4 stands well on it's own, cayman seems like a car marketed for someone who wants a porsche but can't afford the 911.

yes, i will. especially since i had dinan s2 done on it.

but here's the thing, though. i find myself driving more and more erratically.

because 335i with dinan s2 had so much power available on the tap, i became more impatient with other slower drivers and would cut them off when it wasn't really warranted. and the fact that i barely pushed the pedal and the car is crusing already 75+mph on the highway frustrated me even more. we really need AUTOBAHN to fully utilize the cars like 335i and up.

so i decided to go with NA engine this time. yes, i'm aware that the car will be much slower but i'd like to rev freely without endangering others
