Coming out of retirement | New Gaming PC Build

I have not built a gaming PC in about seven years. I stopped playing PC games about two years ago. It's time to come out of retirement!

I just ordered an AOC Agon AG352UCG monitor. This locks me into Nvidia. Most likely going with a 1080 ti.

Outside of that I have not done much research yet.

What is everyone going with for HW these days?

I'm pretty sure that ASUS coming out with a 4k 144hz monitor later this year. As far as GPU's go not sure what is coming out in the near future and I havent looked at benchmarks for the 1080ti

The 1080 ti just came out so I'm betting nothing worthwhile will be out any time soon.

I need a new monitor now and wanted a curved 3440x1440 21:9 display. I was going to try to hold out for the revised Acer X34 named the X34P....but it has been delayed again to at least Q3 this year.

Nice components! I'll check those out.

Be sure to check out MicroCenter when buying PC Hardware next time. They basically sell at cost.

Just set up the new monitor! It is so freaking awesome. 3440x1440 is insane. Now I need to get the new PC built asap. My lowly gtx 670 just can't push the pixles on the 35" beast!

You're comparing an NVMe based M.2 SSD to a Sata 3 based Hybrid Drive.

Nice specs! I, however, can't stand small monitors so I am trying a Sony 43" x800D 4K TV. If my 1070 can't power that thing, I'll spring for a 1080 ti.

If you are doing any gaming I highly recommend going with a monitor vs a tv. Your GPUs are wasted if you go the TV route.

I built a similar setup for a buddy of mine using the black-Friday/ cyber-monday deals last year. Some of your newer parts weren't available yet but i got the older versions a GTX 1070 SC, i7 6700k 4 Ghz unclocked, and the z170a carbon. The whole build ran him just under $1700 shipped.
I went a little nuts on the fans he's pushing 1 120mm, and 8 114mm (push-pull setup on the h100v2)

Recently added another GTX 1070 SC in SLI for VR Gaming. I'll get another pic of it when i see him this week.

Edit:
I just saw you spent 200 for the operating system
you can pick it up here for 20 bucks https://www.bonanza.com/listings/Win...tion/440872100

So far I am loving it. I work from home so I also use it for my work monitor. Unfortunately I, my entire family have had that damn stomach virus for 6 of the 8 days I've had it. So I have not had a chance to play with it much between playing nurse!

Did not go with the x34 because of all of the posted issues with it (still!). If I lived in Europe I would have tried the X34a. That model corrected all of the issues however it is not sold in the USA. There is a video on youtube from last summer where Acer was showing off the X34P. They said it would be out by the end of the year (2016) but it has been delayed over and over again.

Did not go with the Asus because the design is too out there for the room.

I would have tried the Samsung....but it has that cheap white Apple looking plastic for the back. Again not good for my room.

I can say from the limited time I've used the monitor it is awesome. The curve really immerses you in whatever it is you are doing.

Thanks for your input. I currently have a x27 and looking for another(bigger) monitor and wanted to see other options. My predator has been stellar despite the problems I've read.

Mad also the ti came out 2 months after I got the 1080 but we already knew it was coming.

Haha yes we did!

I just read an article today that Nvidia may be pushing the Volta architecture out one or two quarters early. Q3 this year.
