What the %$&^# was that?

Drove 40 min to work then while going 20 MPH heard a LOUD CRACK.
So loud and sharp I thought someone had shot the car with a gun. Top and windows were up.

Now, i recall reading a couple of people mentioning similar sounds who thought they had cracked a wheel or blu a tire. No marks, no cracked wheels (this time).
Can't quite figure it out but thought it may be the top wasn't quite in place and slipped in.

Thoughts? Stories welcome.

Assassination attempt, no doubt. After what happened to Dr. Stig 2 and his mysterious projectile plastic piece, I think there's a conspiracy going on.

You have a replacement in your near future. I actually checked for blood when it happened to me in my M3. It's a diy-able, but hopefully warranty covers it.
....I know I sound over confident, but its my 2cent opinion.

That actually makes sense.. very helpful!
This car makes more unusual noises than any car I have ever owned.

I had the same thing in my X1.

To this day I still haven't figured out what it was but it happened to me twice. Got such a fright! Both times it was at speed on the highway...

Hope you figure it out!
