Hard Water Softner Systems

Can anyone give me some input for a system for a 1300 square foot home? 2 people live in the home and and we have 2 bathrooms. Thanks

Avoid Culligan at all costs. They use proprietary parts and charge for diagnostic service visits when equipment is under warranty. We replaced our Culligan water softener with a GE system to get away from Culligan.

Not sure what information you may be looking for but I refill salt every 3 mos. Get system re-bed every 2 years. Otherwise no real maintenance to speak of and it works great. We also have a whole home water filtration system.

+1 for GE system. Had it installed in my townhouse when I moved in. Has been trouble free for the last 3 years.

My friend who's a plumber recommended this softener to me when I bought my home and I took his advice...I'm very happy with it so... I recommend it to you.

I used this site over 10 years ago when I did mine. It's been great, and the site has great information.

I installed Kinetico which plumber referred it as BMW of water softener - but of course I think I'm ripped off big time.
Either way, it was my only choice at the time because I couldn't run any new receptacles to run the softener as my electrical panel was already full and it was the only thing that ran without electricity. We've been using it for more than 2 yrs now and I like it so far. No problem so far and salt consumption is very low - i only filled it once since I got it.

I had a SEARS water softener. It lasted 5 years and stopped working. The price of the repair was the cost of the unit. lol

I went to an independent company near my home. Their units last 20 years and it has been trouble free for me in year 7. It takes the cheap salt in the blue bag about $6.00 for a 40 lb. bag.

Stay away from big companies as mentioned earlier. Go with a reputable independent business.

if you are going to make the investment in a water softner, think about putting in a RO water filter for drinking water since you really do not want all the salt in your drinking and cooking water. If you can separate the grew water usage from your consumption usage, then put in a carbon filter for consumption with all the water contamination issue these days a good carbon filter will remove 99% of the bad stuff. All my consumption sourcing in my house are on a carbon filter.
