Smarttop error! HELP!

Hi guys,

I just installed my smarttop for my e89 and the LED does blink green steadily. However, when I tried to use the remote for the features. Nothing happens...What can be the problem? I did update all the firmware updates before I did the installation. Do I need to program the module to my remote or something? If so, please let me know how. Thank you

Did you activate it? The first function must be at value 2. You can do that either by USB cable or with turn signal stalk.

I left a USB cable connected so I can always connect the computer to reprogram the module.

But I just went out to the car to test the manual programming technique and it worked fine for me:

Get in the car
insert the key
start the car
stop the car
remove the key
press down the turn signal stalk (but not past the click)
the left turn arrow should blink once (after a short time)

Now follow the programming as per the instructions.
When finished, insert the key and both arrows should light up
remove the key, you are done.

HTH

you're not suppose to start start the car, just get it where your gauges are working.

don't need to get the engine going

Well, I interpreted "Turn the ignition fully ON" as meaning starting the car as there is really only "insert the key" and "start the car" no "fully on without starting" as in the old turn the key ignitions.

Anyway, it might not be necessary, but I showed a way that I verified works

Actually there is. You push in the key. Do NOT press the brake/clutch as if starting the car, then press START. This turns on the ignition and power without turning over the engine.

In my experience, the signal stalk programming works always when the car is "off", there is no need to turn ignition or the engine on/off before that.
