LSD

Finally installed M Factory LSD (pumpkin) bought during "Black Friday" sale. 3Hrs start to finish by a BMW Mechanic with lift and proper tools (and my help). Amazing what you have to drop to swap the diff. back belly pan, diff shield, triangular rear brace, Exhaust, heat shields, rear sub-frame, rear sway bar, and center driveline support. Then you can disconnect splined driveline (special spanner wrench required) and rear wheel 1/2 shafts. Pull mounting bolts and drop pumpkin down on a tranny jack. Install of new unit was straight forward reversing steps above. Dropping and reinstalling the pumpkin and exhaust is a 2 man job.

This is not something to attempt on jack stands.

Really didn't have a chance to fully evaluate on trip home. Definite improvement though no noise, clunks, or vibration. I will evaluate this spring. The car is put away for the rest of the winter

It's possible to do it with just slightly dropping the exhaust and leaving everything else there. Sway bar just needs to be disconnected and pushed away.

Definitely a huge improvement for our cars though! Curious how the M-Factory performs compared to usual brands.

Lsd for e89 3.5i DCT ??? İs it possible??? İ know some brands can do it but they need oem diff and they mix both diff with oem diff ring.

Because e89 Dct has Do you have a welded differential.

Quaife BMW LSD Conversion - install a Quaife LSD into your original final drive housing. If you are abroad, you can send your final drive here for conversion.

@italy: Are you referring to the quaife LSD or M-style ?

If the former: the pricetag shows something like 1500 USD for the HW + installation costs (exctracting the diff out, dismantling it, quaife fitting-in - some precise measurement will have to be done, oil refill and diff reinstall).

I would say something like grade 5 on a scale 1 thru 10.

Hope it helps.

I am interested in any of the options. I did a little research yesterday, and it seems there are a few options. Quaife, wavetrac, or M style. I am trying to figure out what one is the best option for me. I would prefer some type of strait bolt in, but I am not sure which one or if that is even possible. I will have to do more research.

I went with M factory. The E89 does have a welded ring. They have the capability to rebuild the pumpkin and put a new ring on their helical style LSD units. The only other company I found in the states will machine off the existing ring and reuse it is VAC in PA. Email Stephen. He is a pleasure to deal with. Tell him we talked. syeh@teammfactory.com I am extremely pleased.

Only 35i(s) have a welded one, so luckily I had a much wider choice with my 30i (bolted).

BTW, some tech-comments:

Quaife = "worm" type LSD while M-style one = "lamelle" (Drexler) type

worm = slip ratio cannot be "tuned" ("off" or "100% on", nothing in between)
lamelle = they (at Drexler) can set the threshold to 25, 50 or 75%...

worm means no running maintenence apart form occasional oil change (per 30k miles)
lamelle = regular maintenance needed (oil per 8k miles, lamelles to be changer upon driving style)
