How To Keep A License With A Z4 35i
I recently sold my 2008 335xi coupe 6 speed which I loved for the new 2011 z4 35i. While the 335 was always fun to drive as it was manual, every time I take the z4 out I feel the need to drive it hard as Im no longer enjoying shifting and controlling the car.
How do you guys keep your licenses? Yes, I already have a top of the line Escort 9500ix radar detector, PBA shield, and PBA license plates, and cards but getting caught once could mean the end of my driving for a while. |

Go tracking every other weekend or so
Very little desire to drive fast on the street At least that's my personal experience. I'm the guy who drives 40mph in a 35 zone in a drop top M3 lol People sometimes give me looks, or they're behind me and put their hands up like "wtf why you going to slow"

I got several tickets, got close to being suspended and close to being arrested while I owned a Lexus IS350 - just as fast as the Z4 but much quieter.
No ticket to date with the Z4, I think because the driving is much more involved - tighter suspension, noisier and manual gear shifting. So I'm much more aware of how fast I'm going. I occasionally (okay, everyday!) feel the need to drive like a complete maniac and test the limits but never in areas with too many houses, kids, work zones or known speed traps. Hilly, windy country roads away from towns is where I play. And while I may occasonally hit triple-digits speeds on interstate highways, I stay very close to the speed limit in town and school zones. In fact that's the main reason I haven't installed the Dinan software yet - it's hard enough to push the car safely or legally with 300 horses, it'd be even more frustrating with close to 400. I fact I suspect I'd enjoy the car less as I wouldn't have to work as hard to make it go fast.

Wtf are you guys doing 80? On local roads, srsly? I love to speed as much as the rest of you but theres no reason to do 80+ in a 30 mph zone.
If you wanna go that fast, get on the highway or take it to the track. Just sayin' |

There used to be roads out west in the desert with no speed limits posted, but that's long gone. I believe part of Texas and all of Utah have roads with the highest speed limits of 80 mph. But of course if 80 is your baseline, you want to drive 100!

Lol. I wish. You know the max highway speed in NY is 50? But hwy and local roads are different. I just think 80 on a local road would be a bit dumb for more than one reason which is why I asked where he was driving. Im not saying I dont speed, I definitely do. Although, I managed to get a 2 point summons the other day while standing still so how cool am I? :/

I used to attend a lot of schools in Kingston, I lived in Woodstock whenever I was there. One night I was on my way to school and some local Sheriff's deputy was sleeping in a parking lot on a corner. My aircraft landing lights in my high beams woke him up. He chased me down and wrote me a ticket for 80+ in a 45 (it was raining and I was NOT speeding). I never appeared and Ulster, NY had a warrant for my arrest for quite a few years even though I wrote to the local kangaroo judge or JP. I'm aware of how screwed up NY is.
