Used 35is?
A local dealer here has a 2011 35is in their demo fleet. They have had the car for 90+ days, it has been licensed, it has approx 300 miles on the clock. Would you consider this a used car? We attempted to make a deal on this car but they would not budge that they felt the car was new. I made what I felt was a fair offer (basically $1500 under invoice) for what is to me a used car. They wouldn't come close so I walked.
I know if I bought this new and came back 3 months later with the same number of miles they would likely offer $45-$50k at most. Last edited by Silver-Bolt; 08-30-2010 at 04:50 PM.. |

I agree with you. You made a fair offer. Just tell them, this is my offer, call me by Friday this week or I'll be shopping elsewhere.
Cheers and good luck ... keep us posted

Certainly nothing I will lose sleep over. I offered what I feel the car is worth and have no intention of increasing it. If they come back and say OK, then fine. If not there will be plenty of others being discounted as we go into winter.

i mean no disrespect to silver-bolt, but what the hell?! it's a huge pet peeve of mine, when people wait and wait for the latest and greatest at a good price... don't you realize that if you do that by the time you get it, the next big thing will be out? it's like Clarkson said, now you can't drive your DB9 because when a guy with a DBS pulls up next to you, you'll feel horrible and inadequate and you'll have to kill yourself...
just get a 35i from '09 with the sport package, throw the dinan chip and enjoy, we won't tell if you don't

I think techincally it's considered pre-owned, especially if the warranty period has started. BMW certainly isn't going to cut you any slack and give back 300 miles on your warranty.
On the other hand, your dealer feels he has a hot commodity so he isn't willing to deal with you. What do they say in Economics 101, an item's selling price has nothing to do with it's real value, but what the market will pay. The issue I have is with a demo or fleet vehicle is the way they have been treated. I know we're talking about a 300+ mile vehicle, but in my book they're worse than an actual "used" car that got some TLC.

For what it's worth, I'd walk away, too- and I love this car. I'd either wait and order my own (if you're paying "new" dollars, anyway), or go with Memphis's suggestion and a 35i with a Dinan map if you want to save a few bucks and still get a smokin' fast car. I don't think it's ridiculous at all to balk at paying full price for a car that is not new, regardless of whether it's 300 or 1300 miles... If the dealer can find some bloke to ante up, well... bully for him.

So not only is the car used, but the dealer is refusing to bargain in this shitty economy? I say the dealer's bluffing. In this economy, almost no one's buying luxury items, so he's gotta be hurting

Just my educated guess.......The dealer will probably sell that car for $500 less than the average margin they make on other 2011 Z4s.
In other words, if the average 2011 Z4 (with less than 25 miles on it), sells for $1000 over invoice, then they'd probably sell that 35is for $500 over invoice. Every market is different, so I was just using those sale figures as an example. It seems that $500 is a fair ADDITIONAL amount of discount to compensate for the 300 miles it has on it. The dealer is thinking there is some person that will eventually buy that car won't care that it has been on about 25 hard driven test drives and/or driven around town and out to lunch by 5 -10 different salespeople for the past 3 months. |

Dealer just called. Apparently there are new lease deals for September. Rate is lower and the residual went up to 55% from 50% on a 36mo 15k mile lease. Looks like we will be in one in the next few days.

Looks like Friday is the day. It's an "is" red/black, Premium Pack, Premium Sound, Cold Weather Pack, & 326M wheels. First stop is the tire store for some non-RFT all season tires.

I assume you are leasing the car and return the RFT back where they came from .... Have a great weekend, I know you will PS I will put my coveralls on visit my friends Machine Shop and play around with a vertical boring mill, zero in that cracked wheel then take runout reading on both sides of the wheel rim (I shall see how much I remember from my German machinebau apprenticeship). BMW has a out of round tolerance of 0.3 mm (0.012") what a joke that is. My cracked wheel was rejected for warranty and ruled "having a bend" of course the wheel has sprung, it has a crack Hello Anyway ... I shall not bore you ... Tomorrow is your big day Congrats again!

Congrats! I've done a lot of reading on all season tires lately. You should give the Continental ExtremeContact DWS a look. Pretty inexpensive and are getting rave reviews for the most part. I'm seriously contemplating switching to them once the temperatures dip into the low 40s.
