So, let me get this straight:
a 23i or 30i Z4 built in April of 2010 is considered a 2010 model, but a 35i Z4 built in April of 2010 is considered a 2011 model Definitely a little different! Can you imagine how the dealer would sort them out for vehicle service? Last edited by teagueAMX; 12-10-2009 at 08:56 AM.. |

if the post turns out to be true, would that be because they want to avoid the whole depreciation swing a car takes.
e.g. if you buy now a 2009 and someone else also buys now but a 2010 model, both cars will depreciate differently simply because of the MY, even though there might only be a month difference in them. although, now that i remember, I ordered my 2006 E90 back in 2005 when they first announce it, so I was driving a 2006 model car for more than seven months in 2005, although i did get screwed with some options that were non-existent when i built my car vs 2006 cars built in september and later of 2005.

I do not think the N55 will be introduced next year. It will at least take 2 years. It is too expensive to get a new engines tested and approved (N.A, Europe, Asia, etc) and sell it less than 3 years.
I guess 2012, model year 2013 will get new engines and a cosmetic update. I’m curious if BMW introduces a +200BPH 4 cylinder turbo engine, especially the weight saving could be an improvement. |

As far as I know the output of the N55 is the same as the N54, but max torque now comes on earlier, it is more fuel effecient, has VANOS, less parts and is a lighter total engine. I have also read it is slightly less laggy than the N54 but this is subjective. These are all great positives in my book. There are no negatives unless you are interesting in tuning which you will have to patiently wait for. But when tunes come out I have a suspicion the N55 will be able to outperform the N54 slightly in regards to power extraction.

The N54 has VANOS but what it doesn't have a is Valvetronic technology. If in fact the N55 is less laggy it's due to that tek as it manages the air intake differently.
Either way, if they do change over to the N55, I hope BMW can figure out how to make a HPFP that doesn't fail as often. Last edited by teagueAMX; 12-11-2009 at 09:34 PM.. |

Sorry, yes the new N55 has Valvetronic. I hope they sorted the HPFP problems and NOT introduce any other chronic issues!
Looks like I will be waiting for the new N55 to be released. |
