Did this mod today. Dead easy thanks to all the good tips here. Those positioning tabs break off so easily you would almost think some friendly BMW engineer designed it that way to let us do this mod!

I am just wondering if the left side is used and that's why they didn't have the original box.
Yes, just received it this way in Los Angeles. all good so far.

I'm doing mine right now and I would recommend that you dremel the tab down a bit deeper than the surrounding tape as you will need the adhesive foam to make a good adhesion without the remnants of the tab holding the plastic off the body. Hope that makes sense..

If you look closely at the tab you will see the it is pre-scribed below the surface of the tape. It will break off at the line just like a piece of sheet rock. But if you want to be OCD - about it dremel away.

Didn't expect the end to stick out 1/8 of an inch from the body. Even after holding it in place for quite a while, the plastic sticks out. see pic.
Anyone have this problem? BTW just on the left side so far, doing the right now.

Posted too quickly.
On further inspection a small section of the white tape covering didn't come off with the rest on install. I was so focused on getting the left hand side aligned correctly (as read in earlier posts) i didn't pull the tape till the main body was almost set. Lesson learned, right side went great.

Great mod. Kept the chrome for now as I'm Deep Sea Blue. Goes well with badge and the 35i but i'd like to see picts if someone paints it the color of the 296's with Blue.

How to's were well done. thanks to all.

Blu_Yea, Did you fix the end that sticks out 1/8 of an inch from the body after you figured out you left the small white tape?

Thanks for the tip with the screwdriver. Just done mine and it made everything much easier.

There is no such thing as M35i. What is it a 2l turbo car?

That M badge has to go

This is how it looks like from BMW:

Then I separated the indicator in two pieces and sent it for the paint shop. It got back in a Maserati colour called "Grigio Mercury".

Then I mounted them together:

This tap is the only thing you have to do a modification on:

You can brake this tap off with just your fingers, the double sided tape from BMW is enough to get a really good stick to the fender:

Take the old indicator off, this was a little hard:

The connector is the same:

Then it is connected, then you just take off the security tape and pop it in to place:

Result:

The indicator work fine and there is no warnings on the instrument cluster

Good luck
