AR downpipes with high-flow cats. Everything else stock. Maybe new tips if you want to improve the looks.

I have the exact same setup as above - 35is with AR catted downpipes. Sounds great.

However if you wanted to upgrade your exhaust then I think that this sounds the best:

The car has Velzes catted downpipes and TK square titanium exhaust system. Also the Rowen exhaust sounds good too.

I think the key is to have catted downpipes rather than the uncatted type as it reduces the rasp. I have heard catless N54's and they don't sound the best to be honest.

Downpipes have a nice sound and are needed for performance mods (if you want to go that road). Cat-back exhaust is just for sound. Personally if you're going for cat-back exhaust, I prefer eisenmann sport (expensive though). YouTube the exhaust that you like and compare. It will help give you an idea of what you're looking for.

The catted exhaust clips sound nice, more of a tuned note

I suggest you do the golf-t mod for 2 dollars 1st and see. I was in the same boat last year when I got my 35is. After doing golf-t mod I decided to pass on getting an exhaust as the mod does enough for my needs/wants.

Yes do the golf tee mod as he mentioned. I did that and yes it does sound good, but it's only a slight change and if you want more than you have to replace stuff.

The catted dps do provide a 'tuned' sound with the stock exhaust that is a good way of putting it.

The prices for catbacks are just simply not good value.
