Steering feel.

We have been out adding some more fun miles to our new car and I am feeling something strange in the steering. Primarily on right hand corners taken at a moderate pace the steering feels like it hits a dead spot almost as if a tooth was missing off of the rack. As I exit the corner and unwind the wheel I feel a "bump" in the wheel as it comes back to center. Is this a trait of the elecrtic steering? So far I have not noticed it on left hand turns.

I have had my Z for almost a year and have never experienced anything like you describe. Sounds like you need to report it.

I've had mine since Mai last year but never noticed anything like it. Mind you my Z4 doesn't have the "servotronic" option, perhaps there is a difference in the feeling...

Silver-Bolt,

I've driven my 2009 since May also on a very long road trip. Never noticed anything like you describe above. I would take it to the dealer and have them check it out.

Good Luck

I've a 23i and for the last 14 months never noticed this.

I've a 35iS on order so i'm interested to hear more about this.

Sounds real odd. Get it back to the dealer ASAP.

I have the 35is and you must be experiencing what I have also noticed on slow/moderate corners. I notice it on both right and left corners and it is a hard to describe sensation of the front wheels like they are in sand waiting for the rears to catch up? Poor description, but whatever, it is a little unsettling. On fast corners and sweepers the steering and car are great, not razor sharpe like the M3, but loads of fun. Is this something only seen on the is? Be interesting to hear if others have noticed the same thing. I do remember one reviewer of the 35is commenting on a wierd mid corner steering issue.

Bingo! Exactly what I am feeling. I notice the most when the wheel is turned past 90 degrees rotation. I feels as if you have to pull the wheel back to the straight position.

Yep, sounds like we have noticed the same thing. Hope we get some feedback on just what the heck it is?? I will be at the performance center next week and I will ask around.

This is one of the things I don't like about the E89. At high speeds the steering feeling also becomes vague. This was a different story with the E85.

I am no race car diver but I keep my wife's Z4 in Sport+ most of the time and I think the steering feel is pretty darn good - it could be better as I wish it were "harder" to turn.
