It's all hype until you use it... and then you're sold!

That sounds like a good plan, but I'm pretty sure you MUST use a car and it has to have 4 doors.

There are stipulations to a phone app? Who would know? Do you let the person know what you are arriving in, or do you just show up?

I can't download it right now due to no service in the plant, otherwise I'd answer my own questions.

When you "hail" an UberX, or any other Uber vehicle, it will show you exactly what car it is (brand plus model), along with a license plate and a picture of the driver.

I assume these are pictures that I upload so I can be identified, correct?

I mean, the 128 is a coupe, can I still partake?

Correct. You need your picture, but not a picture of your car. You would specify how many people you can carry (a GL can carry more than a Prius for example). I don't think a coupe is not allowed but you could only carry one person perhaps?

You cannot (yet) request a specific vehicle. I've been in Suburbans before, but GLs aren't uncommon.

I take that back:

Vehicle Requirements:

• 2008 minimum, but 2009+ strongly preferred

• uberX: Full and mid-sized non-luxury sedans, crossovers or minivans that seat a minimum of 4 passengers comfortably. Interior and exterior can be any color.

I think that when you start, you have to be approved by someone from Uber. They may/may not inspect your car and ride along with you a few times. I'm not exactly sure. That's how it works with Lyft.

I wouldn't mind doing this down here in Miami but does Uber require you to have a stupid pink moustache like Lyft requires you to have?

No, I think they give you a little card thingy to hang on your rear view mirror. Does lyft still make drivers use that stupid mustache? I don't think I've seen Lyft cars with them on lately.

Yeah but it's not much. It's probably like 1.2x or 1.5x minimum wage during peak hours, depending on your location. I just saw a youtube video about an uber driver talking about how much he gets paid. He said he made $350 in 4 days (not including gas costs) during a really busy week. He was originally saving up to buy a $1000 iPad and apparently he quit after he hit that mark because he was fed up with constant cancellations and overall low pay. Then again he's from San Antonio where Uber hasn't really caught on yet compared to some of the bigger U.S. cities.

I was recently in San Antonio and it's definitely not approved there yet. But some sneaky UberX drivers are doing it anyway, just like in Austin.

Huh, interesting. This is the video I was referring to -

He claims it's "brand new in San Antonio" and it's been out for about 2 weeks now (he posted his video April 14, 2014).

I got picked up in a very clean Ranger Rover thru Uber. Driver was very nice and casual, wearing shorts. I don't know how much it was, office picked up the tab. This was a MUCH better experience than a cab.

You gotta remember people taking the cab or Uber is most likely not in shape to drive, unless you're picking up from an airport.

I used UberX about a week ago at SA airport and the driver was cautious, since there have been undercover busts there

Which reminds me that I've heard Lyft drivers have gotten their own cars impounded and ticketed. Also I don't live too close to the suggested 'hot spots' that are recommended, so I'm on the fence.

I think it should be illegal because it's screwing over taxi drivers so much. Do any of you have any idea that it costs $500,000 and up to own a taxi medallion? The poor immigrants spend most of their working lives saving up that money and now that they have done it, some faggots from silicone valley have invented this app to completely screw them over. I think this app should be federally banned.
