Center console scuffs

I am looking to “try” and fix up the center console scratches and clear coat fading in spots on my 2011 z4 m sport. I bought a new chrome ring + buttons for the idrivr and figure while the silver carbon fiber piece is off I may as well try to clean it up. Does anyone have any ideas? I’m not looking to do any aftermarket pieces, would just like to fix this up if possible.

No easy way to solve this short of a new or used OE part..other option is to re-clad..

I was worried about that. What does re-clad stand for?

in your case if the scratches are not deep and trim surface is smooth without any imperfections that would show through the wrap i think wrapping the trim is the cheapest way to go. Or buy new trim.

I have fineline anthracite wood trim and it has a lacquer coating that at least can be polished.
I tried that with my trim this summer.
Took all the trim pieces out except the trim on the doors as it was perfect.
Then used Meguiars SwirlX and ScratchX and alot of elbow grease to polish them.
Did end up getting most of the imperfections out and get them all shiny again.
Some deeper marks still remained but it does look alot better than before.

Probably will do it again next summer and use a more abrasive compound/polish on them as the products i used were quite mild. And using a small polishing tool instead of a foam applicator pad wouldnt hurt either.

I would look into hydro dipping. It’s something you can do at home and there are plenty of videos on YouTube showing how to do it. The materials are not expensive. https://dippros.com/ Is a good place to order film and activators. I would practice on a few items before tackling the trim in your Z.

I appreciate all the help here!

I will try to clean it up as best I can if that doesn’t work they hydrodipping is actually a solid option too!

Hi,

Did you manage to clean yours up at all? I picked up my Z4 recently and it's got the same centre console trim also with similar scratches and wandering if there is an easy solution to clean up.
Thanks!

When I was looking to purchase a Z4, several cars had wood grain interior panels. I initially looked a replacing them with the silver panels. After some thought, I decided that I would paint them body color like some Porsches. Depending on your color combination, you might want to paint the panels. I was going to have it paint matched to the exterior color.

I was looking at a grey car with red leather. I thought the red looked great with the grey interior. The car had wood trim, so I was going to paint the trim grey. Ended up with a white car with red leather and silver trim, so I didn't paint anything.

For aluminum/silver trim i would consider replacing the center console trim piece with a new oem one..

See prices here:
https://www.hubauer-shop.de/en/carpa...17452-anbaute/

New original aluminum/silver trim piece you can get for about 300 eur there.

Wood trim is another story. Fineline anthracite trim piece, for example, for my car is 417 eur new. Considerably more expensive.
