Z4 sDrive35is vs Z4M

So, I was wondering how do these two cars compare to each other? Does anyone that has had seat time in each care to tell the rest of us.

Thanks,

Jim

Why don't you invite all the Z4M owners over to this thread to add their 2 cents. That ought to turn into a lot of fun.

the letter M lost my respect the moment they slapped the coveted letter M on the X5 and X6...

Garage List
As far as acceleration is concerned, the 35i should pretty much match the Z4M and the 35is should smoke it.

As for handling the Z4M should be a little more agile however getting rid of the runflat tires on the new Z4 should narrow the gap a lot.

A 35is STOCK smokes a Z4M in acceleration 0-150km/h.

A 35is with flash tune....no comparison, esp after 100km/h ZOOM!

The 35is in stock tune is actually VERY fast...siginificantly quicker than a standard 35i during my observation...it is as if BMW underestimated the 340HP power output.

Handling is a different matter:

Z4M feels tighter. Put some suspension, sways + non-RFT tires on a 35is ...makes good difference.

At the end of the day:

Z4 35is DCT > Z4M > 35i (manual)

(my opinion)

I did several 400 meter Test runs (400 meters = 0.248548 mile) with a stock Z4M last April, I had non RF tires (Continental Contisport 5P), a free flow air filter-panel and AC Schnitzer springs on at the time and we where both running on Shell V-power+ fuel and the outside temperature was 26C (79F). On an average i was half to 1 and a half cars ahead on the runs, but my results were not stable due to heatsoak after each run. I have a 35i DCT.

In the immortal words of the late poet Michael Jackson "Why you gots to be startin' somthin?"

As a Z4M owner, I'd say the Z4M is slower in a straightline but overall a better trackday choice, while the Z4 35i are much better day-to-day cars while still being fun to thrash on the street. I say that as someone that's test-driven the new car and lived with the old.

Well, you made it here without even being invited, so it seems I didn't even need to bring up the idea of inviting you guys

Can't we (E85/86 and E89) all just get along? We're all Z4s, we're still brothers!!!

Seems like a fair assessment. Unfortunately, I've never driven a Z4M though.

I lurk here quite a bit, as I'm quite interested in how the E89 is doing. If I could rationalize owning both...

Having been lucky enough to have owned 2 z4m coupes (one of the first in uk & one of the last) & currently own a 35is i would say that in a straight line race 35is but for agility z4mc , and there is the thing of the 'm' exprience but set against that 35is is a better everyday bet
