Y Cable Adapter for Powering 3G/S
OK -----
Does ANYONE out there ACTUALLY HAVE an adapter (like the Griffin device) that they are using in a Z4 with the 6FL option ??? My understanding is that this will allow the correct voltage to charge the 3G(S) even though the IMPROPER DEVICE message pops us. If someone is actually using this I would appreciate hearing form them as to how it works and where they got it. I figured that since USB has the 5V power in the connection all I would need to do to charge the phone is to use the USB to iPhone adapter cable I bought from Seidio to verify that BMW actually had 5 volts in the 6FL USB port. But when I tried it I got the sasme message and no charging so... If there is no 5 volts in the connection how does the Griffin adapter device work ????? Does it actually convert 12 volt firewire to 5 volt USB ??? If it does than it is an active device and not a passive devicve as I originally thought..... Someone HELP !!!!!! I am really confused..... And guess what - I am an electrical engineer !!!!

When I got delivery of my z4 the 6FL cable charged my 3G. The only message that pops is that if I want to turn on airplane mode to lessen interference.
When I got the 3GS, it does not charge and I get the message that my phone will not charge and if I want to turn on airplane mode. So what confuses me is that the 3G charges but not the 3GS when I thought both used 5v to charge. |

Just so you all know. The 812 (last 3 digits) part number Y cable DOES charge the iPhone 3GS even though the not supported device message appears.
As an additional piece of information you can also charge the iPhone 3GS using the main glove box USB connector with a USB to iPhone cable. You cannot read the music etc on the phone but you can charge it.
