weird noise when the roof is up

Hey,

I have the 35i for almost 6 months from now.

I had lots of little problems since I owned the Z4
Such as the passenger handle door that went loose, or the front-lights that were to close to the car.
Now I have noticed a high pitched noise somewhere behind the passenger seat coming from the boot.
My guess, is that the engine that is used to power the roof, doesn't stop once its up, and keeps spinning.

Does anyone encountered the same issue?
Thanks for sharing yours experiences, I need to collect some information before going back to the dealership

Isn't that the general area where the dreaded HPFP failure originates...???

You could be right as it's a 35i!

No, the HPFP is in the engine compartment.

The 'low' pressure pump is below the boot compartment in the fuel tank. If this pump generates the noise, you should hear it also in the boot or even outside/underneath your car.

Fuel pumps can generate a high pitch sound and is no issue.

Unhappy

Well I really start to be scared
Indeed the noise can be heard from outside as well, and its coming from the rear.
I because of the amount of snow on the road, I can't go to the dealership right now.....

Any further documentation about the pump issue and how to be sure that is is coming from there??

Hi, I am a new owner of a 2009 BMW 30i Z4. Had it two days and there's less than 800 miles on it. Purchased from another owner.

Today I noticed a high pitch whine coming from the rear of the car. It's very annoying and I can hear it sitting still with the engine running, top up or down. It wasn't doing it on delivery of the car.

Being new to BMW, I suspicion a fuel pump. So I started googling this BMW symptom and I keep seeing lots of law suits over a High Pressure Fuel Pump. Does that apply to my particular vehicle? Is this vehicle known for this problem?

I have made an appt. for Tuesday at the BMW Service Dept. Not sure that the noise is consistent and will find that out in the next couple of days.

I'm a BMW newbie. This vehicle was a present for the wife and she loves it but I'm disappointed at this symptom. Something is not right.

The HPFP issue only affects the 35i so that won't be it. I've got a 30i and have not heard anything similiar so I can't offer any good suggestions.

am quitting the battle of noises.
dealer kept the car one week and changed different items, including from roof mechanisms. Car has now 13000 km, so guess some 8000 miles, and can hear dashbord and cockpit noises on bad roads, there are so many that it becomes impossible to spot where they come from.

This is it, no way dealers can fix that. Somewhat disappointed by bmw quality control on z4.. Ok at least on good roads, no real issue...
