Auto Tran Sport vs Shift Lever Left

Does anyone know, in detail, the difference (if any) between using the toggle switch to go to Sport vs moving the shift lever to the left, but not selecting Manual mode?

They have 2 different functions. Moving the shift lever to the left changes the shift times to a higher rpm. The Sport button changes the suspension settings, so that Sport has a stiffer suspension, Sport+ even more so and also disables the DSC.

That's what I've observed but could never find it documented. Toggling to Sport also changes the shift points, but I'm unsure if it's to the same settings as shift left.

sport button on normal / lever on D / nanny computers on
suspension - soft
steering - light
gas pedal - a bit "dull"
gear changes - about 2k or less, reaches 7th gear asap

sport button on sport / lever on D / nanny computers on
suspension - firmer
steering - heavier
gas pedal - sharper
gear changes - between 2k and 3k

sport button on sport + / lever on D / on your own (pray to god mode)
suspension - firmest
steering - heaviest
gas pedal - sharpest
gear changes - between 3k and 4k

---------------------------------

sport button on normal / lever on sport / nanny computers on

gas pedal - a bit "dull"
gear changes - about 3k or less, holds gears on curves, downshifts sooner, blips while breaking

*** unless you're about to roll over while on sport +, the nanny computers will let you run amok.

*** while in D, only a kick down of the gas pedal will trigger a downshift, you can still downshift/upshift using the flappy paddles for instant gratification.

*** the rpms quoted are estimates (i try to focus on the road, not the tach)

*** only applies to DCT... the auto tranny DOES NOT even come close.

Thanks, I'm baffled why BMW doesn't publish specific info on this.
On a related note, does anyone know how to get to manual mode without changing the currently selected automatic gear?

Not sure if this answers your question....

With the shifter on Auto, you can temporarily shift gears manually with the paddles. After a few seconds of not shifting with the paddles, it will revert back to automatic.

No, using a paddle changes the current gear. The situation I'm trying to address is that the current auto gear is correct but I want to ensure the transmission remains in that gear.

If you want the transmission to remain in any one gear, then you'd have to be in manual mode.
