Auto Tran Sport vs Shift Lever Left
Does anyone know, in detail, the difference (if any) between using the toggle switch to go to Sport vs moving the shift lever to the left, but not selecting Manual mode?

They have 2 different functions. Moving the shift lever to the left changes the shift times to a higher rpm. The Sport button changes the suspension settings, so that Sport has a stiffer suspension, Sport+ even more so and also disables the DSC.

That's what I've observed but could never find it documented. Toggling to Sport also changes the shift points, but I'm unsure if it's to the same settings as shift left.

Thanks, I'm baffled why BMW doesn't publish specific info on this.
On a related note, does anyone know how to get to manual mode without changing the currently selected automatic gear? |

With the shifter on Auto, you can temporarily shift gears manually with the paddles. After a few seconds of not shifting with the paddles, it will revert back to automatic. |

No, using a paddle changes the current gear. The situation I'm trying to address is that the current auto gear is correct but I want to ensure the transmission remains in that gear.

If you want the transmission to remain in any one gear, then you'd have to be in manual mode.
