Reflectors

Does anyone know if theres a vinyl overlay sold for the front/rear reflectors? Ive seen smoked overlays but I want it match the paint. I know theres a website that makes them for the e85/e86 but they dont offer it for the newer model.

I installed these painted reflectors. Not sure if they have any for the rear.

Yeah, Ive seen those but the car is a lease and I installed those on my e86 coupe and they were a major pain in the *** to install. Id rather keep it simple but Im not finding any alternatives to replacing the reflector.

I popped mine out over the weekend, going to have them painted at a body shop for ~$40 for all 4.

The rears popped out REALLY easily. Theyre just clipped in, no double stick.

I havent actually taken the fronts out but cmon it doesnt seem THAT hard.

The easiest way to remove the front reflectors is to take off the front bumper but since that seems a bit much, you just have to turn the wheel away from the reflector and get in behind the wheel well, also youll need a heat gun to get the reflector off. Srsly, it was a huge pain in the ass. Maybe its easy if you have small hands or nails that arent an inch long. Id rather have an overlay that will come right off when the car goes back. Im not going crazy with mods. So far, just the tint, antenna, lux angel eyes and rims.

it was really easy for us to take them out

We didn't even need to take off the rims.

when we put it on the lift, we had plenty of room. but if you want, you can turn the wheel or jack it up

take out a couple of bolts, pull the fender liner back, then slowly pop the reflector out then replace with the new one
took us about 10 minutes a side

My dealer ship doesn't have a problem with it either. Most wouldn't even notice it! I would just get the painted reflectors and save yourself the trouble of having to cut an overlay and whatnot. Looks better too!

Keep in mind...If you go back to your selling dealership when the lease expires you wont have a problem.
You are allowed to do any visual mods you want (i.e. springs, reflectors, trim, debaging, led's, tint, etc...) and you don't need to bring back to stock. However... they do want and OEM BMW wheel/tire set up with good tread left, stock exhaust, and no tuning chips when returned.
Just pop em out and paint em' and don't worry

Must be different over there

In CA, it's a legal requirement to have reflectors

The dealer will not accept the car with an illegal modification

Same goes with really dark front window tint or windshield tint

That doesn't seem so bad because in MA, you first pay $123 to register a new car, and then your local town tax office will send you a bill for your yearly property tax (excise tax).

For the year of 2011, it will be $1406.25 for a 2011 Z4 35is.
