Importing BBS wheels from Germany
Does anyone have any experience self-importing BBS wheels from Germany? I'm mostly interested in the classification and the amount of imposed import duty.
I've been lusting after the BBS RE-V since they came out in Japan. At some point I had investigated buying them from a local BBS Distributor who would import them from Japan, but the cost was just prohibitive ($6500+). Then BBS decided to bring the wheel to the US earlier this year, but only in M3 fitments However, I just found out that these wheels are available in Z4 fitments in Germany now. And at fairly reasonable prices as well. What I don't know is what sort of import duty would be imposed on importing merchandise in excess of $3500. -MarcW |

Correct the wheel is indeed manufactured in Japan. Given current exchange rates however it is much cheaper to buy the wheel in Germany. A reputable shop in Japan charges 426,000 yen or roughly $5500. This doesn't include shipping nor does it include import duty. When ordering from Germany however, the price is 'only' 2660 euros or roughly $3800. Again w/o cost for shipping and import duty. This is still going to be more expensive than buying the wheel in the US as the MSRP is $1150, but Z4 fitment isn't available in the US so not really an option at this point. I'm just trying to figure out how much the total would be.
