Replacing Rft With Rft

Hi,

I have a 30k km OEM POTENZA 225/45/R17 RFT tires. At high speed, specially with the road little wet and started to feel an unpleasant instability.

The advice from BMW was to replace the rear tires. So, I started looking for alternatives. I don't want to go NO-RFT but for what I read, the Bridgestone's I have are both obsolete and not very good.

I'm looking for other brands like MICHELIN PILOT SPORT 3 o PRIMACY 3 ZP.

Any advice?

Hello, welcome to the forums!

I have the Continental ContiSportContact 5 SSR tires on my wife's 335 right now, and they are reasonably comfortable. I believe these are called " generation 3 runflat tires" and another example of this is the Bridgestone S001 RFT (also available from the factory on the latest generation of 3 series). Apparently Tirerack has both of those for sale in the size you are looking for

If I was going to stick with run flats I would look into those rather than the ones you mentioned, which I think are indeed older generation.

I would definitely AVOID the RE050A (which comes stock with the 19" E89 wheels) since they are worse than other RFT I have tried in terms of the sidewall excessively stiff to the point of causing wheel hop when accelerating on bumpy roads, and not having as much grip

Thank you for the advice! Is interesting that the BEST SELLER on tire rack for the Z4 is a MICHELIN PRIMACY MXM4 ZP. Any ideas why?

I think I will go with Bridgestone S001 RFT which are an official recommendation on BMW SHOP. I will have to wait almost three month to get them in Argentina

I may switch to those too on my 335 when the continental RFT are worn out. Good luck with the wait.

Can't you order from US and just get it shipped?

I don't have any experience with them. For non run flat, personally, I am using Dunlop ZII and was choosing between that, the RE11A and Rival.

It doesn't rain much in socal so I went for summer tires with maximum grip that are still usable as a daily driven tire. My understanding is that those 3 have the most grip in that category of tire.

I briefly thought about daily driving Cup tires but my Z4 doesn't have enough power to make that worth it.
