I also have heard and read this probably won't happen. Look for this z4 to be only offered as folding hard top. Look for a soft top in the rumored z2.

Don't shoot the messenger.

Plus they fihure they will attract more people with a folding hard top, than loose people because of extra weight and no rag top.

Yeah, but I thought the new Z4 was getting the twin turbo N54 (rather than the 3.2 S54). Actually, just looking it up the N54 is 195kg whereas the S65 V8 is not much heavier (202kg) ... so not much of a weight difference.

Having a hard top convertible will make Z4 into a heavy weight rather than the light agile convertible roadster it is now. Unless bmw can somehow still keep the car light. Its important to keep in mind if the z4 becomes a heavy weight then it will lose its point as a roadster.

The car being tested here is clearly boosted in one form or another. The front mount is the same as the 335i. Also, the exhaust is similar as well.

A turbo roadster would be a great replacement for the Z4M.

Best,

Tony

Thanks for posting the photos, that new Z will look really good when they remove that ugly top and let it be the convertible it was designed to be.

I was told they will not rule out a Z4M. The economy and the up & downs of fuel + new cafe standards on MPG is causing BMW & others to hold off on any big projects. If all turns around in the next two + years I bet we will have a new Z4M as long as the demand of this new Z grows. + dont forget BMW M is thinking turbo smaller displacement engines for future projects to help control fuel cost.
