Last week I had a similar issue with the car.. When I turn on the ignition the yellow engine light poped out. I thought that it was a minor sensor problem. However after driving it around 2k to 4k rpm for 10 mins, the car suddenly swithced to a limp mode. I turned it off waited for couple mins and when I tried it again the car was shaking pretty bad. I thought that either it was a spark plug or similar issue or it was related with fuel system.

I ended up taking the car to a dealer, and they checked the car for 2 days. At the end they told me that they couldnt figure out the reason of this problem. However they told me that driving a z4 with less than 1/4 tank of gas sometimes cause this kind of electrical issues. Now I try to keep the tank full most of the time and I havent experienced a similar issue.

Idk if your question was related with something like this but heres my 2 cents..

You are driving the "iS" version? If so that would make the the first one to report failure...
