There seem to be more than an expected number of issues with the 296 rims cracking. I have been running the 313 rims for a year [also 19"] and have been caught by a few substantial bumps but have not had, nor seen any issues with them. Search the threads for "cracked" and you will get a feel for what has been posted.

The 19 inch Style 296 (I have them too) seam to have some sort of issue. I had 2 rear wheels crack as well. See photos in my garage (Album Name "Cracked Wheels").

One wheel was replaced by my Canadian BMW dealer, the other one, it is a long story, the jury is still out. I may talk about that later in more detail all depends on the final outcome with BMW (I am out $1,000- for a new wheel and expenses during a vacation trip).

There are a few people here that have encountered cracked wheels (you need to make a search and you will find the threads). In England there is the UK Watchdog, they had a TV program and a follow up (links in my garage) only it seams for some reason the links no longer work, then still the written text is there. Just search for "Cracked wheels UK Watchdog" and you will find it.

I intend to keep my wheels for now. I will inspect them quite often and the slightest sign of a crack and I'll be at the BMW dealership claiming warranty.

You may have several choices;

1) Warranty claim?
2) Find the wheel(s) second hand someone might have changed to something else and has the wheels you need for sale?
3) Sell your wheels and get a better wheel?

Good luck with your situation

Since you guys mentioned about cracked RIMs. I had leased a BMW 650 cabrio from 2007 to 2009. I received a class action claim form in the mail today for cracked wheels. This is not a claim for the E89, but if others start reporting cracked wheels, it could possibly turn into class action law suite. Make sure you guys keep all the receipts that you ended up paying for replacement/repairs for both wheels and tires. http://www.gilardi.com/bmw-ellipsoid121stylewheel
