LSD

It's not the drug i'm asking about but the limited slip differential. Does anyone have any experience with the different manufacturers? I heard Quaife was one of the best, if they even make it for our cars. I am new to LSD's and was wondering if they are worth it for performance in our cars specifically? I don't track my car and do mainly cruising driving and local driving. Anyone doing this upgrade?

Since you don't track your car don't bother.
I have the quaife unit, it provides improved launching and traction on slippery roads and surely increases your cornering speed.

Bottom line is if your driving habits include flooring it when the light gets green and spirited driving on windy roads with dsc/dtc completely off, then you need it.

I would try to avoid to purchase directly by BirdsUK because their after sales service and backup if anything goes wrong is sissytalk.
Harold @HP Autowerks in Santa Barbara is your guy if you need anything.

thanks for your input. Yeah, I was thinking I didn't need it but so many folks tell me that it would make a huge difference in your driving experience even for regular driving. I hardly floor (maybe sometimes on the freeway) but that is about it. It was choosing the LSD or go for the exhaust first...i'm leaning more towards the exhaust instead (or first).

Has anyone else put on LSD in their car? Just wondering what your experiences are.

I want a LSD too! Maybe for Christmas. If you are looking exhaust, it would be better/more hp to go with the new AR Down Pipes for less than $1k. The sound will be awesome and the power gain huge. It eliminates the primary cats and leaves the secondary ones in your exhaust system - couple that with a quality tune (e.g. ESS) and wow!

I tell you this because I have it all on my wifes car and the Eisenmann exhaust is great but it cost $3k plus for less performance than the DPs.

how much did the DP change the sound vs. eisenmann? I was going to do both but I don't want it to be obnoxious. I always preferred engine noise over exhaust noise. I got the ESS tune stage 2 and I do like it. Too bad ESS is conservative..I would love a stage 3 tune. =)

If you add Eisenmann or any other aftermarket exhaust that deletes the secondary cats, and you then add the down pipes, you need to buy the downpipes with the race cats in them. In other words, you really either need the primary cats at the down pipes (or race cats as it would be with aftermarket DPs) or the secondary cats in the stock exhaust. If not, it will be VERY VERY loud without any cats at all. I do not think you or the local police would like it.

You could simply buy aftermarket mufflers and the AR DPs without cats. Or you could go Eisenmann and DPs w/race cats or some combination like that. I was simply suggesting the cheapest, highest performance route. I went with Eisenmann because when I was originally modifying the car no DPs were available. Now that I have talked to Kai at AR several times, I would go with the DPs first for less than $1k (add ceramic coating) and then see if I still thought I needed $3k in exhaust.

However, whatever you choose these are all great mods:

1) ESS, Cobb, Dinan, or some other quality tune
2) AR DPs
3) Micheline PSS (the best mod you can probably make!)
4) FMIC
5) maybe Exhaust
6) and the list goes on . . .

DOES ANYONE HAVE GOOD BRAKE PAD recommendations? I was thinking Ferrodo Platinum or something like that?

What are the sizes of the MIchelin PSS did you get? I had talked to Discount tires direct and they keep telling me that the PSS doesn't come in our car's size fitment. I have the 19" 296 wheel and would like to keep the same tire size if possible. Just curious as to what is the optimal setup for 19" tires for our cars on 296 rims.

Discount tire is "right" but very WRONG. Your original size is, I think, 225/45 and 255/40. The Michelin PSS easily fits your 296 wheels at one width size larger, 235/35 and 265/30. Trust me, we had 296s and this is what we and many others on this forum have done.

stock sizes (from the inside door jam sticker and on tire itself) is F: 225/35 and rears are 255/30. My car isn't lowered. So most folks do 235/35 in front and 265/30 in back?

Yes. I just doubled checked the tire sizes in the garage and they are 235/35 and 265/30. That is only 10mm wider than stock, which translated into inches for us here in the USA, is only just over 1/3 of an inch. In other words, your 296 rims will have NO problem running a 10mm wider tire, a fact that Discount Tire knows, or should know.
