Top is stuck up and red light flashing on top control button
I have taken the SmarTop off and now I am at least getting some feedback from the console button. Before I uninstalled the SmarTop i got no light at all. Before and after still says top malfunction on message center. The trunk would not latch with SmarTop on and now with it off it won't open but yet will not electrically pull it all the way down. Any thoughts?

I had this problem the other day. I don't have a SmarTop, just a stock setup.
The malfunction light came on as the trunk lid was meant to lower. I tried putting the roof back up, but that didn't work either. Luckily I was in the underground parking at work, so I could wait it out. I called BMW assistance and we were trying to figure out the next steps. While he put me on hold, I decided to try raising the roof again, and for whatever reason it finally worked. So after what seemed like an eternity, it was only stuck for 15 minutes. It's not clear what happened so I'm booking it in with the dealer. I was brave and tried lowering the roof again -- it worked just fine. So there clearly wasn't anything on the way of the mechanism because i wasn't able to get into the trunk to inspect or move anything around. Weird. |

Hi one of the things to watch out for is the rear parcel shelf cover in the boot not locked down enough it can bounce hence stopping the roof from continuing, the same happens if you open a door etc at the wrong time this will also stop the roof in mid cycle..... so the any micro switch actuation in the roof circuitry can cause a similar result....
