2011 Z4 35is transmission oil leak

Hi Guys,

I just found out my transmission oil is leaking from the pan. Do you guys have any issue like this before? By the way my car is DCT.

Thanks

Yes, others here have posted about it here and on the e9x m3 forum.

Known issue with the dct and I ask the tech to look out this whenever my car is on a lift.

Thank you for the replay. Do you think I can still drive for another 2-3 weeks until I bring it in for oil pan and gasket replacement?

Thanks

I had the same issue on my car. They tried to fix it three times without success and ended up replacing the transmission.

Damn 3 times? I just had few things replaced at dealer recently. Tired of all the issues I got even is cover under warranty. What do you experience when the trainsmission oil is leaking?

Thanks

You can drive it with the leak. Mine was a very slow leak and I never stopped driving it.

It seems like it's really normal for our car?

My warranty is ganna expired in 5 months and considering to buy 2 years extend warranty. Any suggestion? Should I buy it?

The DCT M3 also has the same problem. I believe that my transmission was leaking at one of the hydraulic hoses. Ferrari F430 also has the same DCT and they have the problem as well.

If you haven't yet, have dealer check the hpfp and injectors, roof and engine gaskets (especially valve cover) and head light leveling sensors.

Those seem to be the other common areas for e89 based on these forum posts and if you have those looked at and fixed under the original warranty you might be ok skipping the extended warranty

And closely read the warranty terms to make sure those spots are covered, or else it might not help you in the end.

Hi,

I recently had hpfp, all 6 updated fuel injector, O2 sensor and all 6 spark plugs replaced due to missed fire and rough run. Valve cover gasket replaced a year ago. So I may not need the extend warranty?

Now I am planning to take my car in to check out the DCT transmission leaking but what's the issue with roof and headlight?

Thanks

O9 35i DCT with 30102 miles
No Leaks.
I did buy the 3 year/70K Gold Protection plan for the Peace of Mind factor and JUST IN CASE any of these potential issues arise.

My car (and a few others) have had an issue where the headlights keep pointing downwards. Fix seems to be replacing the sensor attached to the rear suspension and re-aiming lights

The roof seems like it gets a lot of squeaks and rattles and some have reported it getting stuck for various reasons (its a vert... roof always needs extra TCL on a vert?)

With all the stuff you've gotten replaced, I personally think you should be fine without the extended warranty, but I'm obviously just guessing, same as you

DCT oil leak (of varying severity) is extremely common. Had it on my '14 IS as well (with under 3000 miles). Was repaired at the dealer and is fine.

Change in shift points after DCT repair

Don't mean to thread jack, but wondering if any of you who have had your DCT trans leak repaired notice any difference in the shift points? I just had mine fixed by the dealer a couple of months ago, and feel it is up shifting early and downshifting later than usual. At first I thought it was the DCT trying to relearn itself, but it's been that way since. I find myself playing the paddles more often to put it in the proper gear. Otherwise there is a slight but noticeable shudder. BTW this only happens in normal mode. In Sport mode, all seems fine.

Get the transmission readapted. When you replace the pan gasket or the mechatronic gasket, it's recommended to readapt the transmission. Ask your dealer to do it and if they say they have ask them to do it again. Real quick via ISTA.

Dealer replaced the entire oil pan not just the gasket in my case. They had to order the part so had to go back a second time to get the work done. Waited 5 days for the part to come in but the actual job took less than a day.

Good luck!

It's always replaced as an entire pan, you can't buy the gasket separately.
