The thumb wheel works for me to vary the center vent temp. I'd guess because of that (manual control), the BMW systems don't vary the vent temp automatically.

Any time the ambient temp isn't hot (>80), I spin the wheel to the middle position. In winter, I spin it full warm.

Hmm, but how do you know that your cabin temp is the same as outside? Perhaps it is hotter and that's why you are getting more a/c?

Discovered this week...

Stall the Z4 by accident when waiting for your gf. Enjoy your stereo, continued air-con and light a cigarette off the still-working 12v socket in peace and quiet... : )

I know my cabin temp is the same as outside... because I have my top down

Chuck, you have me scratching my head: if your top is down (and windows are down), why do you bother having the a/c on in the 1st place?

If your top is down (but windows are up), I believe that there may still a diff between outside vs cabin temp and hence the a/c blowing cool air in.

I leave the A/C on with the top down - it cools the air around my feet in the summer, and warms it in winter.
You notice it when you slow down as the warm / cold air makes its effects felt higher int he cabin, but it is making a difference all the time.

I wouldn't know such thing...but then again, I don't have sweaty, stinky feet.

(I'm just kidding, don't kill me, Stig, LOL.)

Back on topic:
When my top/windows are down, I personally don't use a/c since I'm enjoying the outside air.

I find that once the engine gets warm (~250F) if I don't turn on the A/C, it blows HOT air out the vents. It could be a nice 77F out, and without the A/C it's like a hair dryer blowing at me.

So.. I turn on the A/C and soon my knuckles are ice cold. If I crank the temp up to 80, the fan goes to a very low setting, but the air is still ice cold.

So driving around with the top up or down, I either use A/C, or I have to turn off the fans completely.
What I want, is a strong ~72-74F breeze out of the vents...
What I get is either 65F air (A/C on) or 80F air (A/C off) at whatever fan speed I want.

Not a big nit, but you think they'd install a temperature regulator in their A/C unit....

^Agreed on the weird setup (can't get cool air unless the a/c is on)...I also mentioned this in another thread, supposedly the air channels are too close to the engine so the air can't be cool enough.

I just turn off the fan completely when I'm in that situation (top/windows down) to avoid the warmish air.

Anthracite Wood Trim

The swirl marks and faint scratches in the Anthracite Wood Trim can be removed by waxing and polishing it just like you would wax and polish the exterior finish of the car.

Once you wax and polish, it looks like new again. Do a couple coats of each the first time.

if you forget to open your side mirrors, it will open automatically after you drive off.

I had flipped the mirror in at a traffic light, when a pickup had his lights in my face. I close the side mirrors to reduce the glare. Light turned green, immediately moved off and forgot about opening back the sides.

I'm not sure what the trigger is, speed or time. but after a while, the mirrors opened.

Just found the 6-CD changer in the glove compartment. I never knew I had one, what a sneeky little bastard.
