Boy, can I relate! Six months ago my wife and I went through "the search" and found the most frustrating part the lack of really attractive color combinations in the used Z4 market. So many "non-colors", black, white, silver, grey with predominantly black interiors. Since it is her DD, I just backed out of the process and left it up to her. She settled on space grey with coral red interior. I have to say, to me the car is absolutely nothing special to look at with the top up, but when it's down it's an entirely different story. That red leather is gorgeous! BTW, the only color it didn't work with for me was Melbourne Red. It's just too much red and the shades clash!
There are definitely a lot of black Z4s out there!
I ignored them for a long time, but I saw one the other day, with the Beige interior and it made me rethink the color.
Other colors show the lines of the car better, and that's what I am focused on...if I had my choice.

I am torn about the red interior.
I am looking at a 35is, Silver with the red.
I'm nervous that I won't like it…although I have seen the red before and it never looks quite as orange-y as it does in photos.
I really wish I could buy a car after actually SEEING IT!

I don't know.
It has a lot to do with what they own it for.

and...Melbourne red is kind of a tomato red (has a little orange in it) while Coral Red is more of a lipstick red. BTW, my wife usually goes nuts for red, but we were both disappointed in Melbourne. Not only is it too orange, but it has very little metallic in it. Kind of makes you wonder why they had it in the same color pallet as Crimson Red, which was the non-metallic offering in 2013.

I agree, the Coral Red interior is very orangey, like terracotta. I wish they'd bring back Fox Red. that was an awesome color and if it was available at the time, I'd have gone with that and a black exterior.

All due respect jparnes (and I mean that sincerely), but I have Coral Red Extended and I would not use the term 'orangey' to describe it. Traditional 'lipstick' red is probably a closer description, only its a bit deeper/darker than that.

One thing I can definitely report after two years of ownership is that Coral Red wears VERY well, hardly ever appears dirty and cleans easily. This is one of the reasons I chose it (having had beige, saddle and oyster interiors previously) and I haven't been disappointed.

Same point I made in post 47 above, however in retrospect, I have to agree there is a little orange in Coral Red (why else would they call it 'coral"). I think to some extent this is dependent on what body color you pair it with. And, when you're inside the car, it definitely appears more red/red.

Agree entirely. Read this about the color here prior to buying. When we first got our car the interior was a bit soiled. It cleaned up nicely with minimal effort and six months later still looks new.

I'm happy to hear the positive reports about the coral red from you owners.
It looks as though I may be joining the group sooner than later.

Believe it or not, there are still a lot of people who think that eating three years of German luxo car depreciation through leasing when you can't write it off as a business expense and having absolutely nothing to show for it at the end of the lease term is not the height of financial prudence. That's why the CPO market for these cars is so good. Buying used gets you at least a bit closer to a reasonable price for cars that start off with grossly inflated MSRPs due to ridiculously high German labor costs. That and we're not all rich.

I love my coral red. I always get compliments. My only comment is that sometimes dark blue jeans will bleed a bit on to the seat. But that's true for all colors except black. Anyways just something to keep in mind.

From other posts I've seen here, this is less of a problem with red than other colors (except of course black).

Because I am hopelessly research motivated, I did actually look into buy/lease options.
I can tell you that if i was to buy the car i built on the BMW website I would be paying over $1000 a month.
A lease hovers around $700 a month.
Add to these figures state excise taxes and inflated insurance costs.
Over the course of a 3 year lease I would pay north of $25k, and only gain the ability to purchase the car for what would probably be around $40k.
$40k for a 3 year old car with 30,000 miles is not all that reasonable.
I would rather own a used Z4 outright.

Especially when you can buy 2-3 year old CPOs all day long with far less miles for $40-45k.

The Hunt for Z4 came to a successful ending in Pasadena, California today.
Thanks for everyone's input along the trail!

So, my Z4 is in transit from California, and it will be another week before I take possession of it.
Besides getting the registration and insurance set up, I am attempting to get certain things taken care of from my list of things I want to add to the car while I wait.

I ordered a SmartTop module.
(Although I will probably use the car for a while without the module installed just to make sure everything is as expected.)

I purchased the iPhone dock for the console, even though I do not know if I can actually use it.
It was a great price on Ebay, so if it is not compatible, I guess I will just sell it.
(Media Snap-In Adapter Cradle Dock 84212298308)

I will be buying a deflector as well.
I think I will go with the acrylic one from Bavarian Autosport.

Any input on these items is appreciated.

I will say one more thing…

Waiting sucks!

Essentially, yes.
I did however contract a local BMW only shop to perform a Pre-Purchase Inspection for me.
The shop, AVUS Autosport is well respected, and did an extensive inspection on all aspects of the car.

Not cheap…but peace of mind usually isn't cheap.
http://www.avusautosport.com/about-us

I do have some anxiety about the shipping process, but some things are unavoidable.
I did reject the first transport company the dealer contracted due to really poor reviews and an F RATING from the BBB!

I got my own carrier who is A+ and properly bonded and insured, and although it delayed the pickup/transport, I now feel much better about it's traveling across the country.

Additionally, I have a new friend in the business who, although i did not purchase a car from him, he provided me with more info about the car that is not normally available to a non dealer purchaser.
All the news was far beyond what I may have hoped to hear regarding it's prior owner, and all aspects of it's maintenance, including warranty & CPO info that the dealer knew nothing about.
