Fog lights!
Does the Z4 35i have fog lights? In the massive rain system that just went through I was driving in heavy fog recently. Could not locate fog lights while driving....also couldn't find it in the manual? Seems weird to me.

No fog light in E89 family
Should have something in the empty lower grills or inner headlight

Wow $60,000 sure doesn't buy much these days!

Don't be unhappy. I'm not sure how many roadsters you'll find with fog lights (I'm not that interested so I'm not searching). Personally, I think it would detract from the appearance if they were in the lower grill.

Good topic.
I never really understood the need for fog lights. With all the cars I've ever owned I've always kept my headlights on low beam and never had any problems. The cars I have had that had fog lights, the fog lights really didn't seem to help much if at all. I think they were more a cosmetic selling point. But I'm sure it varies between cars. I do agree that another set of lights in the from of the Z4 would look a bit busy. |

Fog lights does help when its raining and there is a thick fog. It has become more of a cosmetic appeal because they do look good if incorporated on the vehicle well.
What I want to know is if possible and what we can do with the inner projector. It would have been nice if BMW made that the high beams instead of just upping the intensity of the low beams. It seems like a waste to just have it there doing nothing, I mean BMW spent money to design it to be there, why not put it to use?

There have only been a handful of times in recent memory that it has been so foggy that fog lights would have helped. Last Friday was one of those days! Generally the adaptive headlights on the Z4 are highly adequate and nice and bright. Just seems weird that a car at the price range of the Z4 wouldn't have fog lights....but then again it's a roadster and it is most happy in the sun

It is really used, you just don't know it is working. One comes-on when turning, and both come-on when backing up, that is when you leave the lights in the auto position.

Borrowed pic, it looks like this with either the low or high beams on.

It lights up when I corner? I thought the low-beams move, not that extra lights come on. I could be wrong though.

Had the extra driving lamps on my '03 Z4. Used them every time I drove at night. When I first purchased the '09, noticed it was missing them and was concerned at first. After several drives at night with the new Z, the XIDs seem brighter and dispersed at a wider angle than the old ones, so I don't really miss the fog lamps at all...

That's interesting. Is there any vid anywhere of how it works? I just find it weird that it would turn on an extra light when turning when the low beams already move.

I found that if you turn the lightswitch all the way to the right it changes the beam lower and to the right. Works fine in fog. I thought it was the foglights........
Have adaptive lights, don't know if works on regular lights. E89 does not have "cornering lights" at least not MY 2009 - 2010. Last edited by SHADOW4; 03-05-2012 at 10:23 AM.. |

I did notice several times both last winter and this winter that I would end up driving faster than everyone else on the way home in the evening. I would have to look in my mirrors to see a roster tail of snow behind me, but the xenons were not showing any snow to the front, the light seems to act as if it is "polarized", and doesn't reflect off fog or snow, or even rain the same way. Anyone else notice this.
