Question Original Inspiration for Z4 Styling?

Looking to the past...

E89 Z4 and Tiger II/King Tiger. Who's got better "flame surfacing"?

LOL - that's funny.

If you're comparing the e89 Z4 to the tank , I think you really have to look at the previous generation Z4 to see Chris Bangle's flame surfacing design concept in the metal.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Bangle

He took a lot of heat for some of his concepts, but it interesting see elements of his work evidenced in almost all other manufacture's automotive products.

Flame surfacing is a reference to Bangle's pronounced convex and concave body lines and creases, shape of the headlights, etc., that give the impression of flames. Both the e85 and e89 have them, but the e89's flame surfacing is less pronounced.

Speaking of "Flame surfacing" some local engineering students attached a small pump and a fuel supply line to the exhaust of there GT Mustang at a local car show last year. Prior to the end of the car show we all gathered around and they demonstrated the results ... turned out to be quite a flame trowser (I have pictures some place just don't know where at the moment).

Don't let anyone hold a match to it

Once saw a movie ... very old one ... kits followed this old grandpa up the stairs here and then he would let gas and the kits ignited it with a match ... wish I remember the movie name it was Italian I remember that much

Thumbs up Sixt for BMW rentals

I rented from Sixt from Frankfurt airport, took a drive into Belgium to stay overnight, then visited my friend in Dusseldorf.

Sixt has an amazing choice of convertible cars - check out their web site listing.

Sixt Germany Convertibles

BMW Z4, 1er, 3er, 6er, M3; Porsche 911, Boxster.

And the Z4 was only 100 euros/day. That is cheap compared to what you'd pay in the US - at least $200-$300.

Only bummer: the web site said 6-speed manual Z4, the garage said only automatics.

Thumbs up Awesome link to BMW designers...

... thanks a lot Rolf-Dieter.

I think I am a huge fan of Anders Warming:

Warming designed so called X-Coupe prototype, worked on Z3, he designed the first E85 Z4 (2002) about which he said: We wanted to make a clear statement. We didn't want to design the Z3, Mark II..

Wanders also designed GINA Light Concept, Mille Miglia 2006 Coupe Concept and previously worked on the X1 concept
