Here are 2 pictures of the inside of the mirror caps.
The OEM mirror caps are held in place with 4 centrally located, plastic mounting clips.

I removed mine by gently pulling by hand, finger nails, at the top edge of the mirror cap, starting at the closest part of the cap located nearest the window, until a small gap appeared between the cap and mirror body- 1/8-1/4 inch gap, again closest to the window side. As this gap began to appear I then moved along the edge of the cap moving from the side closest to the window out towards the outer edge of the cap and then around to the bottom edge of the cap. As I moved along the edge of the cap, at least 1 of the 4 clips snapped, then allowing to gently pull move aorund the edge of the cap with a wider gap which allowed the release of the next 3 clips. Again I did not use any tools.

Just curious why you would have to remove them. Are you guys having them painted, or installing the silver ones?

I installed new Carbon Fiber Mirror caps that required the removial of the OEM caps. There are sets out there that are mounted as a cover over the OEM covers. I did not want this.
Do not use TET Motorsports as I had nothing but issues with the 1st set. They did finally make things right after great difficulty however. None the less, here is the finsihed product with good quality

Those look excellent! I could definitely use a pair of those so the bright silver mirrors don't stand out so much on my all black car!
