Air conditioner dead

2011 Z4 35i ...
Air Conditioner was working fine. I drove for sometime and had to wait for 15mnts to pick up my kid. So I opened the windows and turned off the car. When I restarted, air conditioner didn't start. I checked all the settings. This happened sometime back when I picked up the car from the dealer after service. They said they reset the control unit. Can I do it myself ? Appreciate any help.

How annoying!
When you start the car do you always press down the brake pedal first and then push the start button (this is the correct way)? Or do you sometimes press and hold down the start button before pressing the brake (wrong way)? I remember someone posted about the second method causing the AC to stop working. Also I am curious to know if you were watching DVDs or something similar while waiting in the car at that time?

Well known HVAC problem.

My car has had the AC not turn on at all, and at times would turn itself on when everything is off.

Brought it into the dealer, had some parts changed, not just a reset, (not sure what… have to find my invoice) and has never happened since.

In my case, the control unit was replaced (last August/September).

My AC unit and all controls, also stopped working 1 time. I opened the fuse box located in the top of the passenger foot well and pulled the fuses and checked for lose connections as I have never looked in the box before.

This worked. Never had an issue again in the last 12 months.

FYI

Same thing here - once in the past year. Pulled the 3 fuses associated with AC and something "reset" - no issues since

My z4 2013 35i had the same problem since it was new.
The dealer updated software and its fixed.
Funny thing I noticed is that when the I start the engine the A/C turns off briefly(It used stay off before) and comes right back up.
I assume the software wakes it up kicking it in the butt.
Anyway I am just glad its fixed.

That was me w/ the 'Tranquility Fix' or 'T-Fix' for short.

Anyway, it was addressing the HVAC prb and I discovered the fix was to hold the start button and then press the brake to start the car.

BMW Serivce has been doing resets. Last time they updated s/w with a beta as per puma case. Looks like it didn't help. I complained this issue to NHTSA (NHTSA ID Number: 10525291).

Well .. BMW didn't find any fault codes or any issues with IHKA. So they released the car ... frustrating :-(
