I just had my appointment at sfo. I had to book a few months in advance. The sign on the door said they took walk ins but they had to wait and there was no guarantee of getting them in. On Friday night of our appointment it seemed like there was plenty of dead time where you could've easily walked in.

Yeah, I didn't know they open late. Else I would have walked in and asked the other day when I came back from Asia (landed at 8 PM). Either way, my appointment was in April 17. I was able to push it up to December 16 and now next weekend. Wonder if it's because people are starting to use Mobile Passport now.

I just got my first statement in the mail. Since I put over 4K the first month the statement shows I already have the 100k bonus added to my account. Also when you have a travel expense it is removed immediately because of the $300 travel credit.

Went in for my GE interview earlier today. The whole thing took less than 10 mins (interview, picture, finger printing, etc.). Was told I was conditionally approved and to expect an email in 48-72 hours. Got home, got an email notification, logged into my GOES account and it shows "approved" and that I could start using it immediately. Easy breezy.

Still have the Reserve and it has been improved even more, but now costs almost $600. I have over 1,000,000 points now, so I am kind of locked in.

I still have mine too... just paid my $550 annual fee... but it's gotten worse not improved lol... what's gotten better?

The pay yourself back option is now a 1.25x multiplier as opposed to 1.5x

Chase travel since it switched to Expedia is now junk.

Priority Pass Lounges... are you referring to trailer parks? overloaded, lacking any service or food jokes

FWIW - the $300 annual travel credit drops the price to $250, so I can at least swallow that.

I still have mine as well (since inception) but been wondering if I should cancel one of the following as they overlap a bit:
- Amex Platinum ($695 AF)
- Amex Gold ($250 AF)- 4x points on groceries and dining out
- Chase Reserve ($550 AF) - 3x dining out and travel; $300 travel credit
- Capital One Venture X ($395 AF)- 2x points on everything; $300 travel credit booked through their travel portal; 10,000 bonus points every year worth $100 (or more if transferred to partners)

The Capital One VX card is very straightforward, and one of the major benefits is no cap on how many people you can bring into a lounge! Amex and Chase have a limit of 2 guests. The VX card is essentially a net $0 AF with similar benefits to Chase Reserve. Btw, if anyone would like to apply for one please lmk. Would love to send a referral link.

I feel like if anything, the Chase Reserve is probably the one to be axed. Its main benefit is dining out and travel which can be covered by Amex Gold at 4x and VX at 2x. That balances out to 3x which is the same. As for the Platinum card, I’ll probably keep it another year and see what I want to do the the points. It does offered good benefits but does take a lot of work to utilize those benefits. I like Amex customer service too.

Funny how this just popped up. Looking at picking up a new card. I've been using my Chase Sapphire Preferred for just about everything for the longest time without thinking about it - rewards are bleh. Not interested in travel rewards; we don't go anywhere. More interested in points and benefits. It's a glorified debit card for us as it's paid in full before each pay cycle.

Fuel for the wife's truck and my toy on the rare occasion it is used - company car is taken care of
Car insurance
Groceries
Dining out
Household purchases
Random things (everything from a new toy for me to Christmas gifts)

Any recommendations?

Highly recommend Capital One VX card. As noted above it’s net $0 AF and easy to use. Here’s my referral link if you’re going to sign up. Still get all the benefits of a travel card and rewards/cash back via points (2x). Primary car rental insurance, purchase protection, trip interruption, lounge access, etc.

Even for someone that doesn't travel? When I travel, I'm on the company dime and use their Amex. I get slapped when I've tried to use my own card in the past.

Well, I assume you take at least one local trip a year. You can book a hotel, flight, car rental, etc., and use up the $300 annual credit. Then you get 10,000 points annually, which at a minimum is $100 if you decide to cash it out. If you transfer to hotels or flights, then it’s worth more.

As noted in the post above, the VX card is more straightforward and easy to use. You get 2x points on everything. Even if you don’t travel much, those points convert into cash or you can use them to book travel for someone else. I’m considering keeping it and getting rid of the Chase Reserve before it renews later this year.

What fo you guys think of the Amex platinum in comparison with the sapphire reserve? I have the sapphire reserve now and have about 600k unused points that I'm hoping to use at some point... but also considering other options in the future. I agree with the comment or their lounges being trailer trash.

It’s a good card if you use the benefits. I would refer you but you can get more points online vs referral.
