1. Yes, but only if you have comfort access. If you do have CA, press and hold the lock button and the top will begin closing. Continue to hold until the top closes completely.

2. Comfort Access allows you to keep your key in a pocket/purse, and still unlock/lock the doors and trunk, as well as start the car. This is done by sensors detecting if the key is within close range of the car. Once you leave the car's range, the car will automatically lock unless the key has been left inside the cabin.

You can still close the roof without CA by using the attached key of the keyfob in the key door slot.
I couldn't believe it myself until I saw it.

In the UK you can open the the roof using the key fob (hold the open button down) from outside the car even if you don't have CA. You have to close it from inside the car though. Not sure if this is the same in the UAE. North American spec. cars don't seem to have this feature.

This is the exact standard feature set for the US cars from my understanding.

I was going to ask the same thing. My car isn't here yet for a couple of more weeks, and it's still a 2011 from what I understand.

From everything I read in the manual/on this forum I was under the impression that you could open the roof with a non-CA remote by holding in the unlock button until all windows went down, then continuing to hold to lower the roof.

From other threads I am unfortunately getting the impression that it does not work that way in the US, there are reports from the UK that it works there. I do not have my car yet, but in the manual I downloaded I can not find it described, could you point me to where in the manual you found it.

Is that really true? Would be great, but I couldn't find it in the manual.

Unless there's been a significant update / evolution it's not normal to switch model years this early. Maybe the new 4cyl engines are all 2012 model year cars.

Have any of us thought to, um, try it? Report back? I'd do it now, except it's 11:20pm. I'll try tomorrow, though.

The key fob is just the black key unit (which has a real old fashioned key hidden inside it for when the battery dies on you)

To open the roof - press and hold the arrow button on the fob until the roof opens.
To close the roof - press and hold the BMW roundial until the roof closes.

(Assuming you have the Comfort access)

Also - Comfort access gives you the boot (trunk) access feature.
If the roof is down - you can do a quick single press then second press and hold of the boot release - and the roof half closes so that you can put larger itesm in the boot (trunk) by opening the safety flap cover thing.
You then replace the flap and then press and hold the arrow key again to open the roof fully.

Hope this helps.
