E89 Speaker Replacement Questions
Hi guys... Having allot of trouble finding any detailed info on what speakers will fit a 2009 s35i with the BMW professional audio (no nav). Ive seen a few posts with the speaker diameter but none that include the depth.
Im hoping to add JL Audio cleansweep and a 4 channel amp to drive the fronts off of the stock radio. Would love some recommendations for a good 3 way component speaker setup for the fronts that will fit. Also, any information on what may fit in the stock center channel location or stock subwoofer location would be great as well. Im hoping to keep from tearing the car apart to determine what will fit so any help is much appreciated! |

I'm going through the same thing with my 2012 35is. It has the standard system WITH Nav. I really just wanted the premium enhanced sound from the factory (the only option this car didn't have) but everything else was right and I figured I could upgrade it on my own. Who knew it would be so complicated.
I just wanted the stock upgrade. Maybe I can buy your premium enhanced speakers when you get the JBL's.

It looks like we have only 2 good options, but it may be awhile before BSW gets their E89 package together and available to us. So Jehnert is about all that is available. The system looks awesome, but I am still awaiting a price. Probably in the $1500 range though. All the speakers you need and looks good too.
Pics below show the componets and door panel that you get in the kit. 12 speaker system. 1 in each stock kick panel location, 1 in the door panel stock lacation, tweeter in the stock location by the mirror and 3 in the add on panel with a tuned crossover for the E89. |

Jehnert E89 door speaker system
The quoted price was $1414 shipped from Germany in BMW black kansas leather to perfectly match the interior trim. $165 less is you have simulated leather. Now I wait and collect my other components for the install.

I got the Z back this afternoon from the stereo shop and wow, this speaker system rocks! I'm surprised my ears weren't bleeding by the time I got home.
The way the shop set this up, I have a 16 speaker system with the stock system dash and rear speakers still functioning. I used all JL Audio to get a clean signal from the stock headunit and amplified out to the Jehnert Speaker system with JL Audio Cleansweep CL441dsp and CL-SSi Remote Signal Summing Interface to run a clean amplified signal into the JL Audio HD Series 600/4 amp. |

Yes, it puts out a nice full range sound in the cabin except sub-range. With 300 watts each side, it is loud and clear with the top down, I just don't feel much punch. So I am actively looking for a way to fill that void without loosing much or any trunk space and keeping the car as stock looking as possible. If anyone out there has tackled this issue and found a solution, please post it.

I finally got out on the freeway yesterday with the top down. WOW! This system is awesome, loud and clear at 70mph. It's almost as if the air pulls the music up out of the car and straight to your ears. Next week I plan on taking care of the subwoofer issue with a set of dual voice coil 8" JBL woofers in place of the OEM woofers and put another 600w amp on them too to bring the thump. I do like to feel my music.

nice install!
I want to replace all the speakers in the stock locations and bump up the power output with some amps that I have laying around. So what are the dimensions for the factory locations? 6.5" in the Kick panels, 4" in the door and 1" tweeters up front. Is there a speaker location in the center behind the Nav screen? Whats behind the seats? I see 4 speaker grills, two are around and are probably the 'subs' 8"? two in the corners, is anything behind these grills just over outside shoulders? Then I see the open slot in the center below my wind blocker - an empty plastic cover piece. I have some left over Boston Pro 6.5's that I'd like to utilize some JL 8W3's. I bought a AudioControl LCQ1 that I was planning on using in my 1er but never got around to it.... Last edited by BuckarooVT90; 11-06-2012 at 05:36 PM.. Reason: added my plans |

That really is nice seems a bit overkill for what I would want to get though but great job indeed. I just wish the 14 speakers were a bit better in the car without going all out in mob/cost.

Just finished my upgrade from standard 6 speaker to 16 speaker system (added additional two tweeters in back that have place, but are not put in the factory).
A lot of work to put all the trims away Wiring is simple - the most tough was to put ACC wire to the fuses and extend original cables to the front central (this part of loom I didn't have) Front speakers are not so bad - great improvement vs standard. The only problem is back - subs are very weak. If you set fader to the back almost no sound is coming from all of the speaker (central rear, subs and mid ranges) Temporarily I powered them from external amplifier but it was little improvement so I left them feeding from std Top HIfi amp. If want to improve you have to change subs. Top hifi subs are to small to produce good bass. I will try to put new software to Top Hifi amp, but having read opinions it brings only small improvement. |
