Free Speakers with Free Install!
OK, am I the only one that thinks the bass response on the Z4 even with the premium sound sucks? I listened to the mid bass speakers in the back and they hardly put out any sound at all. I thought that something was broken so I went to the dealer to listen to a brand new car on the lot and same damn thing! Ok, so I search to replace the rear speaker and not a lot of options but went to BavSound as they seem to have the most experience, etc. Talked with them and they said they have speakers but need a volunteer car in LA for a free install and speakers to make a video. So who wants some free upgrades so I can buy the things as I live in Florida!

Are you referring to the center speaker in the back in between both seats? If so, I agree that speaker sucks! And I also live in Florida. I brought it in a couple times and they played a BMW test cd. They claim there is nothing wrong. That speaker has very little to no output at all.

Yup, I complained some time ago that there was nearly nothing for output from those two woofers. The only time I can really hear/feel anything from them is if I drop the top and crank the volume up way louder than I normally would with the roof closed.
Pretty sure that I now have a blown left door speaker as well. <sigh>

am interested in seeing the video they make of your install. why dont you do a post on the process and label out all the communications leading up to it. I think that would be great to read about.

Small world time... I just realized that the guy who contacted me is one of my business customers. We've done business in the past on a completely unrelated matter...

I have a feeling that sound issues with the E89 are not just speakers but perhaps more so amp related.

I assure it is both. The amp is under powered and the speaker wont handle a larger one.

Both are very lacking. The difference between my base model 3 series and my Z makes me think BMW took a step backwards. My 3 has a much better sound and the car costs a lot less.

It's a quick work in progress - give me 1-2 weeks.
I'm in the middle of a kitchen remodel as well as changing projects at work and a light swap project on my wifes SUV - so life is crazy right now... |

So today I met up with Jason from Bavsound at their development studio. He spent a long time listening to the current set up and agreed that it could use some work. He did say that he believed there was enough power, but the poor quality speakers were the culprits for the terrible sound. I am going to leave the Z4 with him for two full days next week while he goes to work developing a sound system for the Z4. I'll keep you updated on the progress. He did show me the components that would be installed and they look to be a 100% improvement over factory stock.

Ok. Assuming the HiFi unit has better components still (amp in particular?) which would allow this relatively simple fix/improvement, whereas on my cheapa$$ "base" system, this would likely provide very little sound improvement.
