Wanted: 225/45 R17 Tire Reccomendations

Hello all,

Well it's time to change tires again for the Z and I'm looking for the best "bang for the buck". Tire size 225/45 R17 would like to stay under $160 range. I've gathered a couple options from tirerack.com but would like to hear some feedback from the forum.

What would you recommend?

Thanks!
Nick

PSS are fantastic but they're out of your price range.

Actually, it seems like there is a special on PSS right now. they are $148 per tire in that size on tire rack. 17" tires are a lot cheaper than 18s and 19s

OP there are a few interesting tires I'd consider for a summer only tire in addition to the usual PSS recommendation you will find on this forum.. gForce Rival, Direzza ZII, and RE-11A

You may want to check out the SCCA forums and tire reviews from grassrootsmotorsport, etc for another perspective on the tires (both of these sources will be biased towards the street tire class autoX tire and daily driveable tire that will work ok for track school days)

I am using the ZII and like them a lot

Considering these $139+ for 17s. Under $800 for staggered set of 19s.

I too am a Mich PSS fan.

I'll probably take a few hits for this but right now Tirerack has Hankook Ventus V12 Evo K110(max performance summer tire) on sale for 63 bucks a tire. (Close outs, limited inventory)

I put the high performance all season type on my wifes MB C300 Sport a few months ago and they are great. I also put the summer tire on my last Z3 and found them to be tremendous.

These tires have had great write ups and have been ranked #2 in Car and Driver
and also highly recommended by Consumer Reports.

If using just as a daily driver or as most of us just hitting the twisties once in a while you probably can't go wrong.

So for a set of 4 delivered and mounted you are looking at quite a bit less than $400.

Thank you all for the recommendations, I appreciate all the help.

On another note, my buddy who owns a shop and put my tires on informed me that two rims were bent, whats weird is that I never really felt the minor shaking until he had told me. At which point I made it a point to feel for any shaking which I did. So now i need to find 2 OEM rims.

On a further note, I did however discover that a brother of my buddy works at a BMW dealership near me. They throw away tires with 5k and less miles all the time from trade-ins and leases etc. A nice little hook up to have.

I also need a wind screen preferably OEM if anyone knows of anything!

I believe the classifieds have some good deals on OEM wheels right now.

There is a member selling style 326 wheels in 19" size for a good price
