Said goodbye to my Z4 today

Time flies, can't believe it has been 3 years with the Z already!

I returned my car yesterday since the lease ended. I've always wanted a drop top BMW so I'll remember the E89 fondly.

Thanks everyone for all of the info and great online conversation over the past few years.

I'll be around on the F30 and F80 forums!

PS: If anyone wants a free short antenna for their E89 shoot me a PM. I also have a Cobb V2 accessport I will be putting up for sale soon.

Thanks for all your contributions here, Nick. You will be missed. Seems a good number of the folks who were on when I started poking around for my purchase are dropping out of E89 ownership here. Lease, practcality and/or running out of warrant seems.

If you're talking a stubby antenna? I'd take that off your hands...

Enjoy your new ride...

I knew from the start I was only going to have the Z for 36 months while waiting for the next M car to be released.

It was a great way to pass that time. The e89 is a head turner and an amazing cruiser and commuter.

My example was also high maintenance (12 multi day dealer visits in 36 months) which further reinforced its "short term" status in the garage.

I think you are on to something with the older Zs. E86 Z4M is on my list as a possible track rat in the future.

I remember letting mine go. It was hard to see it drive off with someone else in it, never to return. But it was a good run. It's been fun, man. Good luck with everything.

It was pegged at 300F for half a lap of Buttonwillow and the power reduction was huge. The DCT was in manual mode and it was self upshifting at 4000rpm. That pic was after I cooled down the brakes in the paddock and parked

I also tried 1 lap with the Cobb stage 1 tune (91 octane tune, and I was running 50/50 mix of 100 octane and 91 octane) and got full out limp mode with CEL at 270F oil temp after half a lap. At least it was a great half a lap ...car was pulling hard right up until the CEL came on

That oil temp pic was month 3 of 36 and also the point of no return when I was 100% sure that the Z needed to be replaced with an M or P car

I guess I will leave my tune stock.
No issues heat issues when I ran Buttonwillow back in April this year.
Only changes I had was swapped out all the coolant in the reservoir with Motul - MoCool

Nick, thanks for your participation. 6 years for us next month! Although I am looking hard at a 991 - my dream car, a 911.

Great minds think alike. I was so tempted by the used 997.2 TT instead of a new F80 M3

It was great participating on this subforum. classy owners and no trolls (as compared to the F80/F30 forums which seem much more troll oriented unfortunately...)

Funny, I am comparing a used 991 purchase to a new F80 M3 at this moment. M3 is ridiculous and I would LOVE IT, but if I buy it I will still be one car away from my dream car. Oh well, decisions.

Satisfy the dream if you can; you know you will always want it!

For me, I still haven't found a car that suits me better than the e89 Z4! Still love it 5 years on...which now I come to think of it is the longest I have ever kept a car!!

I'll be honest if I could afford a 991 GT3 caliber of car I'd take a pass on M3. My M3 was $60.4k before tax so completely different price bracket than the 991.

GT4 is interesting to me but I'm #40 on the lists here in SoCal so no chance there. At $90k it is also a bit costly as compared to other track monsters like the Viper Time Attack

Good decisions to be making

I too really like the GT4, but I am one of the lame ones the feels "the" Porsche is a 911.

I can see that, since i think "the" BMW is an m3

I tracked a 997.2 c4s last year and while it was a lot fun the pace wasn't quite there, especially for the price of the car... I needs to be a "GT" car for me to go Porsche
