There are several of these devices available and Belkin is a good choice. My only question is, does this power on and off automatically? Or do you have to manually turn it on. Also, does it reconnect to your phone each time by itself or do you have to select it.

the device power on automatically when u turn on the engine, it reconnects automatically by a single press of button.

How about just plugging your iphone cable into the AUX and selecting the "ipod" source?

I am able to stream pandora etc using that method with no issues

EDIT: wait a sec, your car does not have a USB port next to the AUX. I guess that is a different across model years? My old '12 had no idrive but premium sound

Yeah lol most of the cars in Asian countries are overpriced for various reasons. The difference between a 28i that's being sold here is the M sport package with iDrive for an additional $25,000. Yep, 25k for M sport package (bumpers, steering wheel, footrest and other M sport goodies) plus an iDrive. Like a brand new car LMAO I'm happy without the iDrive, I don't really need any of its functions the BT option and the screen might be nice, but I'm fine with the usb.

AUX cable generated a lot of hissing sound at high volume and inconvenient for me (plug in/plug out). This little gadget is far more convenient for me and sound better(sort of clean).

In the interest in providing some options, you can also get a TuneLink Auto from New Potato which works in much the same way.

Plug it into the lighter in the armrest, run a (provided) audio cable from it to the Aux input (in the armrest) and connect via Bluetooth. It'll auto connect when the car is started and will auto play from Android or iOS. You can also route it through the FM tuner if you take it to a car without an aux input and it has a USB socket for charging.
