I am also considering other brands as well. My z4 is less than one year old and have more problems than all of my other cars combine. It had the injectors and left tail light replaced the same week i bought the car. Two months later the headlight leveler failed. It is currently at the dealership for a new engine, fuel pump, left tail light (again), left mirror (makes a weird noise when folding), right mirror (discolored), and a few other minor problems. The car doesn't handle as well as my previous z4mc and cost more than my previous z4mc. It is a huge mistake that I didn't test drive the car when I was buying it.

I was looking forward to the 4 series until the recent pics. It's not even close to the hype that they teased us with. I am considering the new stingray and cayman s next year.

Secondly, I agree a forum is a very productive place where one can discuss and share their opinions on a product (or BMWs in this case), and it's pros and cons like you mentioned. However, your earlier post doesn't seem to be contributing much if at all anything to this thread.

"Do you not like my post because this is a z4 forum and I'm not a brainwashed Z4 fanatic who loves BMW no matter what BMW develops or what they charge their customers?"

In regards to BMW reading the forums, unfortunately, I doubt they do and even if they do, not on such a low production Z class, if anything their upcoming F80 and the sorts.
That's fair and you're probably right, so I will delete the post (just deleted it).

I agree as well! I forgot to mention that I was going to order the upcoming 435i, until I realized it has the N55 motor which delivers power poorly compared to the N54, and costs significantly more than the 2007 335i coupe I bought in 2006 (for a worse motor too!) This was another major contributing factor to me buying the Z4. I am buying the Z4 for the engine, the last of its breed. The only thing that has measurably improved in the last 5+ years is the Navi and iDrive system. This is not the area I want my favorite German car company focusing their improvments... I want even further improvements to the already incredible driveability. This is what Ferrari always has done and continues to do, and it's why they have their reputation for greatness. BMW was doing the same thing at a lower price point for us! I loved BMW for that in the past!

I really detest BMW's new direction now... makes me sad, it seems the accountants run the company now. I feel my older BMWs felt better put together with better parts than newer ones - even in the little details. My 2001 M5 had better latches, handles, and an overall more solid quality feel than the newer 2006 M5, the newest M5 continues this trend (including the associated price hike). The trend of flat to downward direction in quality and upward prices continues... Now for the cost of my loaded 2001 M5 new (69,xxx) I can't even buy a fully loaded z4 35is! I know time has passed, but the changes are too much compared to other brands, and it's crazy! BMW has gone soft and expensive like the old mercedes brand that I used to make fun of, and now Mercedes is finally becoming more truly performance oriented, and pushing the envelope that BMW used to be pushing.

BMW was in its prime when they designed cars like the E36 M3 and the E39 M5... have the old decision makers that made BMW what it is (was) all been replaced?

I agree. I can say this with most of the more up-market brands as well (namely Mercedes, BMW, and even Porsche). Don't know too much about Audi, so can't comment on that.

Surprisingly, it's the Americans that are doing it well IMO. I know there is another thread on it so not going to hi-jack, but since Hoa did bring it up, the Stingray is starting to look more and more like a likely rival to all the performance cars from the Germans, not just on paper but in sales as well. To my understanding, they are really trying to target the younger audience (20s-30s) with the Stingray and not just the loyal Corvette fans (avg. age 55), which is surprisingly even higher than Porsche at 48!

It is an option 'BMW Individual contrast color roof' and available with all colors. There are two possible contrast colors, black and silver. Depending on the cars color you can choose the specific 'contrast color' roof. Price is about 700 Euros in Germany.

I have one built 24/12/12. Its not the face lift but compared to my 2010 the roof can be operated at 25mph. this is a massive bonus, you all can do it with the softtop mod box but would hate to have this and issues with the top, say tata to bmw fixing it under wrty

Other than the led front and side lights its the same as the 10 and 62 plate.

The mid face lift in the e85 was more of a deal, but in the e89 having msport which messes with the front and rear bumpers and adds better seats confuses things, the old SI sport V SI looks exactly the same 03 V 06 is different. 12 V 13 not a lot of difference compared to Highline V M sport so BMW coked it up in that way.

I love the Z4 and its my main car I use. Perfect for the 2 of us and all we need.

No Z4 in the DTM (just M3), it is the GT-Masters competition you are referring to, I think.

I changed the side markers and headlight bulbs myself for about $120. now my 2010 looks like the 2016. retrofitting Carplay has made the biggest difference to usability. I also ditched the runflats on my 19" LA starspoke 230's with michelin pilot sport tyres. makes a world of difference on grip and ride comfort.
