Cleaning exhaust tips
So tips are quite dirty and greying on the 35iS. I read that these are welded on for 35i/35is so will be impossible to remove and clean. Any tisp/products to cut down on the labor of cleaning these? Naturally It is going to take some effort.
Picture below shows they are nice polished, mine are on the side of deep grey almost black by now. Last edited by VailM3; 03-27-2013 at 04:32 AM.. |

i tried few different solutions, one that works best is kitchen stove cleaner. its meant to get grease off. spray it, leave it on for 5 minutes and then use a rough sponge to scrub

I just use a normal household cream cleaner. TBH after a few years they start to pit so there's little that can be done other than replace them eventually. I'd like to swap mine for chrome anyhow.

If cleansers don't work, you can use 000 steel wool.

I've seen a few on ebay that *might* fit, but I think what I may do in summer is saw the existing ones off (saw/grind through the welds) and get the ebay ones of my choice. At least they'll bolt on and be easier to remove and clean.

I use the stainless steel scrubber pads made for pots and pans. They are made to not ruin the pan surface. The strands are large and rounded and not so abrasive. i have cleaned my exhaust tips and on occasion the wheels, only when necessary. Steel wool will rip off coatings and such so I use a gentle wiping action. Like you're wiping water off the counter. Works so well and have examined the clear coat on the wheels and finish on the exhaust and they are both intact. Of course, like I said, the gentler the better. Only enough pressure to get the dirt off otherwise you can still tear up your parts with it.

The best thing I have found is Ceramic Stove top cleaner. extremely mildly abrasive, but doesn't scratch, rinses off really well, and any residue will not discolor.
