European Delivery

Hi all, just got back from a fantastic time in Munich (and Florence and Rome). My son and I also toured the Ferrari museum in Maranello and the Lamborghini museum and factory in Sant' Agata (I could talk for hours about the Lambo factory! But in short, everything is hand assembled with a degree of craftsmanship that is a rare thing these days. For example, Lambo produces 2 models and they crank out a whopping 4 of each per day).

As many have said before, ED is an awesome experience and I highly recommend it to anyone who wants to buy a car that's new. The factory tour, museum and overall personal treatment is spectacular.

So the new car is a 2012 Z4 35i, Melbourne Red (it's a beautiful color), black Kansas leather, 6MT, M Sport with 18" wheels, Premium, Premium Sound, Nav, Cold Weather Package and Comfort Access. Having switched from DCT to MT, I can say that this transmission shifts like silk. One nice improvement is the ability to access my iPhone's music collection by Bluetooth, so I no longer have to plug it in or go through the arduous process of importing music into the car's hard drive.

The 3rd pix below shows my son putting the first digits on the odometer during our victory lap at the Welt (yeah, that's the kind of guy I am!)
Now, if I can just keep myself from checking the ship tracking website every 5 minutes!

Nice man you are! I love the color. Now how long before it gets back to the US?

Was wondering the same. Don't know if I could handle the wait. But a great experience! Maybe next time

Nice! Congrats on the car. ED is on my bucket list, even though a European vacation isn't.

It takes 4 to 6 weeks, so mid to late April, just in time for the nice weather.

The car looks great - can't beat a Welt delivery. We did a family european vacation about 6 years ago now. The guys part of the trip was similar to your trip. Ferarri @ Maranello & Lamborghini @ Sant Agata Bologna. While we were in Maranello we went out to Fiorano track and saw them testing the prototype FXX Enzos, the girls were bored. Needless to say the guys were not thrilled with the girls shopping in Paris. C'est la vie. Soon you will be Z'ing in the states!!

Great idea

Can't wait to hear more about your trip but what a great idea to let your son have a victory lap too. How old is he? My son will be going with me to pick up my car but he will not be 16 by then.

He's 17 and just passed his road test 2 weeks ago. But hey, if your son can drive at all, I don't think they care at BMW if he has a license or not.

Congrats on the new car! I had my ED done from that very turntable, so it will be a lucky one for you!

Hope you post up your pics of the trip

Beautiful car and great pics. Thanks for sharing them with us!

I'll be picking up my 35is on April 20th at the Welt and heading south to Italy. Since I'm giving my wife some time in Milan perhaps she'll let me hit the Lambo/Ferrari factories. Sounds like a fair trade!

Hope your car gets on the boat swiftly and is home just in time for top-down weather. I'll be picking mine up at the Performance Center in SC so probably won't see it till late June.

Thanks for your kind thoughts.
I would definitely do the Ferrari/Lambo trip. It's well worth it. For Lambo, because they have to schedule an English-speaking tour for you, you'll need to make a reservation. Go to their website to do that. Ferrari doesn't do factory tours, but you can go to the museum. Also, there are 2 unaffiliated companies that are outside the Ferrari museum offering test drives of Ferrariis or Lambos. 80 - 100 Euros for a 10 minute drive. It's a little crazy expensive (I didn't do it because I've driven a Ferrari before) but...
