Scraping on a steep garage enterance
Just picked up a 09 z4 3.0 and I am hearing this scraping sound when I enter or exit my garage.
its a pretty steep decline entering but its short so its about 3 feet of in/decline then its flat I don't think its the plastic bumper that scrapes but it sounds more like metal. I hear it if I go in forward or backward. The best I can tell its the very back of the car and its this metal plate or shield that is doing the scraping. I saw a little mark on the concrete Concerned that I might do some damage to the car. I am going extremely slow, almost stopped? Any advice? I will post pics tommorrow |

I had the same exact problem. You can try hitting the driveway at an angle. The greater the angle the better.
My car still scraped so I bought a piece of wood 2x12x2 and it solved the problem. I can now drive head on slowly and have no problems. |

I would try laying a piece of wood (2X6 slightly longer than the width of your car) at the lowest point to raise the car slightly as it crosses the low point going in or out of the garage. If this works, a permanent fix might be having concrete poured across the bottom of your drive at the lowest point to provide a slight elevation at the current low point where the tires are now at when the scraping occurs... Just a thought.

Do you know what you were scrapping at the rear?
Any chance of causing damage to the car? Its a rental and shared garage with other apartments so it would be hard to alter Ill try some different angle to see if that helps |

I'm not sure what your scraping in the rear. In the front there is a rubber flab that you are probably hitting which is no big deal but if you hear a scraping sound then it is the bumper and if the rental company sees that your going to be charged.

the apartment is a rental, the car is mine : )
Cant seem to figure out whats scrapping. Going to put some chalk on the ground to see where it is hitting. I dont see any marks anyhwere on the bumper, maybe its more undrneath Can you cause any real dmaage by scrapping the bumper(othe than cosmetic) |

Drive through the entrance again, once you hear a scrape then stop. Go out and look what it is hitting.
Scraping the bottom of the bumper shouldn't do anything other than really scratch the bottom. I guess if drive too fast and it's hitting higher, it might crack the bumper eventually but that only usually happen on cheaper aftermarket bumpers/lips though.

My money was on the exhaust. The photos would suggest it is a good bet.

Seems to be more to the front and center of the car, the slope is steep and short so its realy hard to tell
I have noticed other cars making the same sound(including an Oldsmobile). It happened in my Crossfire too but I could avoid it at a certain part of the ramp. Anyone have a diagram/phoro of the underside of a 2009 3.0 I want t to make sure I am not hitting anything important |

If you pay the airfare and other expenses, I'll send my 16 year old over to check it for you and write you a report with photos!!! There will be a hefty fee charged!!! Seriously thou, simply check it out and verify it for yourself. That is the easiest and best way to determine what is scrapping under your car. You are putting way too much effort into asking this forum, and I doubt if anyone can claim for a fact what would be dragging. |
