Assuming for the moment that a normal person could afford one of those, I don't suppose that a regular person could buy one, right? You have to have a racing team?

Nope, I looked at BMW's page a while back when it was announced and it looks like you just need the MONEY (Lots of $$$$$$)

A sequential is a full manual transmission that shifts ultra fast up or down with a short backwards or forward movement of the shifter and no electronics. One problem with all these "flappy paddle" (ala Jeremy Clarkson) regular car F1 and dct transmissions is they use computer based electronic logic circuits to control the transmission and can deny or miss a shift - not a good thing in racing!

A racing spec sequential can shift quicker than a dual clutch too, in something like 20ms.
