Are the straight pipes a plug and play install with just un bolting/removing the secondary cats and clamping up the straight pipes?

I live in Controlachusetts ( Massachusetts) where the removal of the secondary cats will not pass emission testing so I would need to re add them 1 x per year to get inspection.

Time to replace the secondary cats by a set of Milltek straight pipes. The sound of the exhaust is superb by default, but I'd like the Z a bit more loud/raw when accelerating and shifting up. Milltek has a nice solution for this.

Bye bye cats:

Two dead cats next to Milltek pipes:

Fitted with original clamps:

Also the Z4 has been updated with the latest software so it's up-to-date again. How I like the sound? Really exactly as I hoped it would be. Not louder when driving normal, but as soon as you step on the gas, the engine is quite a bit louder. Also when shifting up, you are rewarded with a lot more noise than before. Fantastic!

Next step: Pay Schmickler Tuning in Germany a visit for some extra horses.

@BMWZ4rider: I guess the first pic answers your question. You need to cut your original exhaust...

Think it's not the case with my Z4. I do notice the gaps are not as tight as with a 'normal' car like a VW Golf 7. Then again... we have lots of speedbumps here, it's difficult not to hit them with your front bumper so I don't mind having just a bit more space. If you hit the bumper, it doesn't directly scrape the paint of the sides of the front panels.

Totally agree!

And you still dont think the sec cat-delete made the car too noisy for cruising long distance, listening to music with the roof up and such?

Or let me ask you in another way: I think you are still on RFTs, so when just cruising at say 80-100kmh, is the exhaust now louder than the tires after the cat delete?

I'm almost sure that the exhaust is not louder when cruising 80-100 km/h. It feels like it's only louder when accelerating.

It's a bit of a trade-off. In fast acceleration it sounds so much better, also when shifting down better burbling noise. In slow acceleration the kind of boring engine humm is a bit more present, that would be the only minor downside. I'd say it's definitely worthwile!

Nice 35is. Nice progression though the ZED family.

I have attached the right_bumperGap and left_bumperGap pics to show that somehow mine is a big larger space on the right side then the left. I was wondering if it's the same for all the z4 in space Gray or M package. Please see attached pics. Let me know if yours is like that or not. Thanks!

hello,
it's the same thing for my E89 35i deep see blue

Went out to Schmickler Performance to have custom software written for the 35is and ended with great scores. They also fitted an additional cooler. Next to the tuning they also reprogrammed some stuff like the 35is waits very briefly when you step on the gas to drive off. Now if you touch the pedal, it responds immediately. Also they reprogrammed some of the shifting behavior to better suit the new powercurve.

As it was really really hot that day it proved difficult to have exact numbers on what the 35is delivers under normal conditions, but looking at the original values and the high temp measurements it should be just about 400bhp and 570Nm of torque. It's stunningly fast now!

I might consider doing that as well, but I haven't come across units yet which really don't flicker a moment when they're switched on.
