I like both vehicles for different reasons. I can't wait to see the ///M version of the new Z though.

Also, as often happens with new BMW designs, it takes a bit for people to adjust to the new look, but as almost always (not always) happens, people end up preferring the newer model to the old.

wow by all means don't undersell the old Z4, sheesh.

they picked the WORST color for old Z4 and probably worst rims too, and put that against the new Z4. some comparison, haha.

i've seen MUCH better looking old Z4s than that, and lets face it, the Z4 coupe might make the current Z look a bit tame and lame as well.

I think the old Z4 is much better looking car outside especially in gray and blue colors, while nez Z4 wins only on interior.

You think so? That color made me like the E85 from the outside (which I did not so far).

Plus they compare the E85 open next to an E89 closed. What comparison is that???

You see, personal taste is - let's say "personal"

Guess what I have to see all the time while I am driving the car? The interior! This is why a car with a boring interior does not stand a chance with me (which is also why I always hated the E85 and have now ordered my E89)

i know, it's all taste arguments we can't win. still, i think both cars have that shark look to their faces except the first one was a kind of mean tiger shark and the second one is one of the less agressive-let's feed them type of sharks. I think the original Z4 was a bit more masculine - and sales support this - 90% of Z4 buyers are guys apparently (maybe for wives?...). I think the new Z4 is the kind of softer version, good alternaitive to mercedes SL. At least CAR wrote this in latest issue having tested it against the main opposition. Oh well, gotta drive one one day and decide for myself for sure. I love the old Z4 for all its wierdness. not many cars like it on the road, the nez Zed reminds me of Audis a bit - very pretty car, like almost too pretty and flawless. hard to explain. I like it to be more raw.

There's no elegance to new z4, especially considering it costs $60K+.

2nd generation LCI Z4 FTW.

But I still think even E86 looks ugly.
2 cents from an ex e86 owner.
No elegance? What? The new Z4 is a perfect blend of aggression and elegance. Every line flows gently from one end of the car to the other. Each one highlights a key design feature and elongates the look. The old Z4 lacked elegance. It did make up for it with innovative styling though.

Wow I wonder why your opinion sounds so passionate and resentful towards the new one, oh wait, that's right, you're probably biased due to the fact that you own an E85. I don't know any angles that have lent it a "positively hideous" look, and I think this has to be the worst rear shot ever (low, directly from behind; get any degree of angle and the car would look brilliant). I will agree about the roofline, in relative to the coupe that is (the old roadster is horrible without the coupe's roofline).

Only downside I can see at the moment? Cost. Don't get me wrong, I like the old one (almost bought one last year) but the new one, IMHO, is so much better.

It's interesting to note that most people who prefer the old model actually own one... Hmmm.
Exactly.

I would rather see a comparo of the new vs. old coupe OR this comparo with the hood down.

The old coupe is much better looking than either of these cars......especially the ///M........

I owned the old model for 2 years back in 2004 and in terms of looks, I very much prefer the folding hard top and shape of the new model. I think that when both are compared side by side, the front of the old model looks quite plain, in comparison to all of the detail thats in the design of the new model.

no M, BMW has other priorities, mainly, how to price their next redesign higher than the competition and with less features.

My opinions of the E89 aren't affected by my owning an E86 in the least bit. I call it the way I see it. The rear end is ATROCIOUS. It doesn't even RESEMBLE a sports car, or even a hairdresser's car like the SLK it's supposed to be competing with. It looks like a sedan's butt when viewed from directly behind. I don't know how anyone could view it any differently.

Looks are subjective, lots of people will (and do) LOVE the look of this car, and that's great. How many of them can actually afford its huge price tag, that's another question.

Many people on here (the most I think) believe that the old Z4 is more beautiful than the SLK. But Mercedes sold two or three times more SLK's (maybe many more) than the Z4 which BMW sold... So, you have to understand that BMW doesn't gives a shit about what I'm saying or what you're saying, BMW cares ONLY for the sales...
Furthermore, about the speed and the other characteristics of the cars, a car which runs the 0-100 in 6,5 seconds like sDrive23i is not slow and for sure is sporty, unless you thing that you are Michael Schumacher (and many people in here think that they are...). Futhermore, about the sDrive35i and its 305 powerhorse... What to say...?? It's a fast, beautiful, sporty and also luxury roadster...!! If you want only speed and acceleration you have to buy a 370Z or even a Subaru Impressa...

I second that X10, they should have picked a 2008 Z4 montego Blue metallic with Beighe leather seats to match color of the New Z4, it would totaly be different. That was a BAD COMPARISON.
